East Turku Objective 2 Urban dimension
Characteristics of East Turku:
• 30.000 inhabitants, 1.300 companies
• Unemployment rate in big suburbs of East Turku 19,2–21,7%
(the whole city 11,4%)
• 15,2% of East Turku inhabitants are immigrants (in the biggest
suburb the proportion is up to 26,8%)
• The biggest language groups among the immigrants: Russian,
Arabic, Albanian, Kurdish, Somali and Vietnamese
• Growing high tech industrial area called Turku Science Park
• One area – two dimensions
