PO Box 553 Frankston VIC 3199 [email protected] www.peninsula.org.au Playing Time Policy SUB-JUNIOR TEAM PLAYERS (U/7 - U/11) • For U6/7, for weekend matches, coaches are referred to as “Game Leaders”. Let the kids play. Cheer and encourage only. No Parent coaching. Team managers are to request help from parents to manage equal playing time. • All registered and financial players who regularly attend training sessions must be afforded equal playing time without regard to ability. Schedules, tools or timings can be arranged for team managers or parents to manage equal playing time. This allows the coach to review opportunities for players to improve. • All players must be given the opportunity and be expected to play in all different positions. There is no justification for specialisation at the subjunior level. This also applies to the goalkeeping position, but exemptions can be arranged for particular circumstances for ‘dedicated’ keepers. • As Small sided football is primarily about participation, if a player is regularly struggling to be involved in the game and are not receiving their fair share of touches, it will be recommended that they consider a younger or different development group. But these situations will be completed in consultation with the families. Developing JUNIOR TEAM PLAYERS (U/12 - U/15) • Although it is recognised that, in this age group a player’s ability may begin to partially determine playing time, all registered and financial players who regularly attend training sessions must be given “ample and fair” playing time. Ample and fair” playing time is defined as approximately one half of a match. With the continuation of the interchange player rule, there is no reason why players should not have ample playing time in all matches. • Players should be encouraged to try playing in different positions. Players learn there positions better if they can learn how to play against their ‘normal’ position. • Options for managing “ample and fair” playing time can be used, for example: • • Balance playing time across the entire season (but ‘fair playing time’ must still be given for each game played. Therefore for different players have the ability to play entire games. If agreed, rosters for player rotation can be used (from a template provided by the club). This must be agreed to by parents at the start of the season. Player game time still must be ensure ona game by game basis. This can therefore allow for player holidays or absences. Page 1 PO Box 553 Frankston VIC 3199 [email protected] www.peninsula.org.au JUNIOR TEAM PLAYERS (U/16 & U18) • Although selection and playing time may be made on a ‘best team’ basis, ability should not be the only factor. All registered and financial players who regularly attend training shall be allowed to play as frequently as possible. • For “A” sides, equal game time is not mandatory, however, every effort must be made to try to achieve ‘as equal as possible’. As per all age groups, every player who arrives to play must receive ‘fair’ game time (ie more than 20 mins). • While player position development is still encouraged, it is not mandatory to move players through all positions. • Options for managing “ample and fair” playing time can be used, for example: o Balance playing time across the entire season (but ‘fair playing time’ must still be given for each game played. Therefore for different players have the ability to play entire games. o If agreed, rosters for player rotation can be used (from a template provided by the club). This must be agreed to by parents at the start of the season. Player game time still must be ensure on a game by game basis. This can therefore allow for player holidays or absences. o For use of penalties for unexplained game or training absences, we recommend starting players on the bench, or shorter game time one week (at least the minimum) – which could be made up in other weeks. GENERAL • Unregistered players shall NOT be permitted to play in any match under any circumstances. For Junior player, a photo id card is required for each match to enable a player to participate. The “NO PAY - NO PLAY” policy will be strictly enforced for a club set date. • If players from any team are invited to help make up numbers in another team, they shall not displace existing team members. Therefore, all while such invited players will receive some playing time, they should only be regarded as reserve players, and are not required to be eligible for equal game . Players may be identified during a season for opportunities to assist older age groups with vacancies available. These maybe once off or regular opportunities and should be arranged with the club’s football operations (to ensure transfer of cards) and/or Coaching Director for appropriateness. • • Goalkeepers can be considered for ‘regular’ playtime rules if they are a dedicated keeper. • Peninsula Strikers is a Community Football Club aiming to provide junior football services to kids of all age groups and differing abilities. While most plans/requests can be achieved, sometimes they may not. Please be flexible and patient and work with coaches via team managers whenever possible. Page 2 PO Box 553 Frankston VIC 3199 [email protected] www.peninsula.org.au • Make every effort to make an enjoyable environment and experience for every player from our club and our oppositions. • Create squad mentalities and less team orientated pockets. Remember: Kids play, coach’s coach, they referee, parents only cheer and encourage. Page 3
