Technological Education Apprenticeship Program (TEAP)
NOW THAT YOU’VE ACCEPTED THE OFFER…
Course Selection & Schedule
Our program is based on a cohort model and thus the schedule for the two summer sessions is set. Your elective
Related Studies course will be offered online during Fall/Winter Sessions. We will be sending details regarding
Related Studies (elective) choices by email.
We expect that in the summer 2014 session, you will have classes most days starting on June 17 and ending
July 29. During the Practicum/Internship periods in the fall/winter, you are expected to be at your placement all
day, every day.
Information Night on Thursday, April 9, 2014 will give you an idea of potential daily schedules and a chance to
meet the instructional team. This event will be held at the OISE Building, 252 Bloor St. West in the auditorium
on the ground floor.
Fee Payment and Registration / Orientation
In late May, we will email information about fees and Registration/Orientation Day, which will be held on
June 16, 2014 with classes starting on June 17, 2014.
In addition, you will be able to access your Student Invoice on the Student Web Service <www.rosi.utoronto.ca>.
It will indicate the minimum amount of payment to be received by the indicated due date. Your status will change
to REG (for Registered) upon receipt of the minimum amount. Details can be found on <www.fees.utoronto.ca>.
Remember that if your status is not ‘REG’ by June 16, late registration fees will be assessed. If you are being
sponsored by a third party, instructions can be found at <www.fees.utoronto.ca>. Please note that TEAP is not
eligible for OSAP.
Tuition for 2014-15 has not yet been announced but it is anticipated that it will be higher than the 2013-14 fee
which was $8,056.44 (your non-refundable fee deposit will be applied towards the tuition amount). International
students and refugee claimants will be required to pay higher fees unless they can claim an exemption as detailed
on the Student Account Information Website <www.fees.utoronto.ca>.
Note that the Province of Ontario has introduced new guidelines concerning tuition fee billing. At the time of
publication, the University of Toronto was reviewing its practices in the context of these guidelines to determine
how and when it will implement changes. Any revisions to the procedures referenced here will be reflected at
<www.fees.utoronto.ca>. Withdrawal
Withdrawal from the program occurs after the program start date. Financial refund dates will be listed on
<www.fees.utoronto.ca>; academic penalty dates will be listed in the 2014-15 Calendar on our website
<http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/ro/Publications.html>. You are expected to notify the Registrar’s Office in writing
by the applicable dates.
Now that you’ve accepted the offer/TEAP | 1 The Tuition Deposit in not due until June 1, 2014. It is non-refundable once paid.
Currently the Consecutive Bachelor of Education Program and Diploma in Technological Education programs are
one-year programs. However, effective 2015, the Government of Ontario has announced that all teacher education
programs will be a minimum of two years. In preparation for the changes to our program and admission processes
that will result from this change, no deferrals can be granted to students admitted into the 2014-15 program.
Accessibility Services at the University of Toronto
OISE makes every effort to assist those candidates with a documented disability in securing accommodations to
remove barriers that might impede their ability to successfully complete program requirements in a timely
manner. Because of the intensity of the program, including the attendant practicum and internship components,
we would encourage candidates with disabilities to register with the University’s Accessibilities Services Office
as early as possible. Their office is open throughout the summer, and further information about their programs is
available on their website <http://www.accessibility.utoronto.ca>. In previous years, teacher candidates with
disabilities have indicated to us that registering with Accessibility Services had been of great benefit to them as
they pursued their studies here; those who register later in the year often regret not having the benefit of supports
from the beginning of their program.
Criminal Record Report
(a) School Board Requirements
As a student at OISE, you will have periods of placement in schools that are a required part of your program.
Before permitting teacher candidates into a classroom, all schools require the candidate to present a
satisfactory police reference check through the Vulnerable Sector Screening program. Depending upon the
police service, this form may need to be signed by OISE as the “agency” that is requesting the reference check.
Although OISE is not the organization requiring the check, OISE has agreed to act as the “agency” requesting
the check in order for these checks to be completed before you have been assigned to a school for your
placement. You should expect delays, so you should begin the process immediately. You must deal with your
local police service and follow the procedures that they have in place. More details and any updates will be
posted on our website <http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/ro/Police_Checks>.
(b) Ontario College of Teachers Requirements
The Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) requires that all new teacher education graduates who will be
applicants for OCT membership and teacher certification (O.T.C. of Q.), provide original reports of criminal
record checks and an Applicant’s Declaration about their suitability for registration. Note that the report is
valid for 6 months only. If you have concerns about a criminal record report which might prevent you from
meeting this teacher certification requirement please contact the OCT at 416-961-8800.
We look forward to having you in our program for the 2014-15 academic year and we hope that your year at
OISE will be productive and successful.
