SelectionCriteria
TheTCPArtisticDirectorwillpresentdirectorrecommendationstotheTCPBoardofDirectors.
Theywillmakeitsdecisionregardingsubmissionsbasedonthefollowingcriteria:
Director’sTheatricalExperience
Likemostcommunitytheaters,TCPisfundedprimarilybyticketsales,andeveryplaythatTCP
producesisafinancialrisk.Thus,wemusttakeintoconsiderationapotentialdirector’s
previousproductionexperience,suchasdirecting,assistantdirector,andstagemanaging.If
youareapotentialdirectorwithnopreviousstaffexperienced,pleaseconsidergainingmore
experiencebeforetacklingaproductionofyourown.Directingisnotaskillyouwanttolearn
onthefly.TCPisalwayslookingforvolunteerstoassistbackstagewithourproductions.
Director’sExperienceWorkingwithTCP
ThemorepriorexperiencethatyouhaveworkingwithTCP,themorefamiliaryouwillbewith
ourfacility,infrastructure,policiesandresources.Eachcommunitytheatrehasitsownwayof
doingthings,andeachstagehasitsownuniquespatialandtechnicalquirks.Familiaritywith
TCPgreatlyincreasesyourchancesofproducingasuccessfulshow.Furthermore,adirector
whoisafamiliarfacetotheTCPpatronsismorelikelytoattractpotentialproductionstaffand
actorsratherthanadirectorwhoisunfamiliar.
Director’s“PeopleSkills”
TCPisa100%volunteeroperatedorganization.FolksvolunteertoparticipateinTCP
productionsbecausetheylovetheatreandbecauseitisjustplainfuntodoso.Nomatterhow
brilliantyourvision,yourabilitytoworkwithpeoplewilldeterminewhetherornotthose
volunteersreturntousinthefuture.
