HEAD COACH REPORT – AGM 2015 The 2014/2015 year has been a huge one for our club. With the move to the new facility finally eventuating in October, the remainder of 2014 was certainly frantic. We held our first Club Championships in the new gym in December and our first awards night was a huge success. Gymnast numbers have been increased with additional pre-level classes on Wednesday and Friday nights. Our competitive MAG program is continuing to grow and we have again had good results in L2-5 competition this year. 10 boys qualified this year to compete at Victorian Championships at Level 4 & 5 with rd the L4 team placing 3 . Megan has continued to do a great job with the senior group despite Cassie leaving at the end of 2014. Megan and I have begun planning for the 2015/16 season and it is exciting to look forward to the development of our MAG program now that we have the facility to support it. The WAG program has seen the introduction of the new Australian Levels Program from Gymnastics Australia which means that all gymnasts will now use the same set of requirements (ie no more State & National streams). GV have implemented the program this year allowing for a Limited Hours season to accommodate the “state stream” gymnasts. The coaches are adapting well to the changes and we will see how it all comes together once competitions begin for L1-3 in June. The WAG Squad program (previously the National program) is also continuing. The National Level 7-10 competition season is well underway and this year we had 7 gymnasts earn places in State Teams for L7, 8 & 9 as well as Micayla and Jodie both selected as Assistant coaches for Australian Championships. The L6 and 7 girls will also compete in August for a place in the Trans Bass team. The National L4 and 5 girls competed in November and the National L5A team were runner up at both Victorian Championships and National Clubs for 2014. These gymnasts have transitioned to ALP 6 & 7 for 2015. At the junior levels, our National 1, 2 & 3 squads all placed at State Pennant in 2014, a huge result and a first for our club. At the final state stream event MYC had gymnasts compete St L4-10 at Victorian Championships in November. The girls were successful in earning apparatus placings. We are very fortunate to have had Nat Anderson has taken over coaching the senior “Limited hours” group this year with the girls now training to compete at ALP 7 in the new program. Our coaching team has seen the introduction of 2 volunteer coaches at the beginning of this term with our trainee program still attracting our senior gymnasts. In 2015 there are 23 MAG or WAG coaches, 5 KG, 2 trainees and 2 volunteer trainees. The coaching numbers have decreased this year however, the coaches are all doing a great job. The club has sent 2 more parents to become new judges and we thank these volunteers for their support so that we can continue sending our gymnasts to competitions. We now have a total of 2 WAG and 1 MAG Beginner judges (two parents and one a coach), 5 Intermediate including 2 parents and an external judge who would now like to represent MYC, and 2 Advanced judges. We have also acquired a MAG judge in our ex-coach Sally DeWijn who will now represent MYC at MAG competitions. The remainder of 2015 will be busy with several upcoming events beginning with our MAG and senior WAG Club Championships next weekend. We have purchased a sound system which will be in use for this event. Our other Club Championships will be in August and October so completing upstairs seating will be a priority for these competitions. Janssen-Fritssen are hosting their National event here at the centre in December so that too is exciting for the club.
