This Week In…………………………
Daily 5/Reading

We learned the reading strategy called
Eagle Eye. While reading, the children
should use the pictures to figure out
unknown words. Using the pictures, along
with the beginning sound of the word,
gives them a good chance at reading the
correct word or words.
Writing/Fundations



We read the poem “Funny Feet” and
circled the letter f.
We used the Fundations magnetic letter
board to make small cvc words.
(consonant, vowel, consonant)
We learned how to tap out a cvc word.
Math



We began Module 2.
We practiced matching quantities and
using a 5 frame.
We continue to build number sense.
Science/Social Studies



We looked for the differences between
summer and fall.
We used the Let’s Find Out magazine to
discuss germs and how to keep from
spreading them.
We learned about Christopher Columbus.

Octoberfest is Saturday, 10/15/16
 Thank you so much for your donations
to our Octoberfest basket!
 Please try to attend Octoberfest, it is
wonderful fun for everyone and the
proceeds help our school fund
enrichment programs.
Picture Retake Day is 10/25/16.
Progress Reports will be issued on 10/ 26/16.
 The progress report will give you an
idea of how your child is doing socially
in school and if they are able to follow
classroom procedures. It does not yet
discuss work progress, as we will assess
their ability to perform once we have
more time in school. (We are still
learning about your child as an
individual learner.)
Sign-Up Genius
 All families have been invited (via
email) to sign up for one slot to be a
mystery reader on Friday afternoons
from 1:40 pm to 2:55 pm.
 There will be extra slots, however, I try
to give everyone a chance to sign-up
before filling the whole calendar in with
people who like to read more than
once.
 I will resend the invitation periodically.
When the next round of invites goes out,
you may sign up again, even if you
already had a turn.
