CJRLFC TEAM SELECTIONS AND BACKUP PROCEDURES 2013
MINI U6 – U9
Teams will be mixed each year to include new players to the club and experienced players in
the club to ensure that teams abilities are split evenly.
This is a NON-competitive draw and as such all players should be given the same
opportunities (ie. play up in age group when required).
Teams should change from the previous year.
Coaches can expect that their child will be in their team but the Committee will allocate the
remainder of the team.
Some U9 players may be selected to play in the U10 competition to help develop their skills
in preparation for Mod Football. This will be based on registration numbers and the childs
ability (according to Coaches Co-ordinators). If they are selected to play in the U/10
competition they will be graded as an U/10 player. Parents will be consulted to seek
permission to play up for the year.
Teams will be advised soon after registrations have been finalised. Any new registrations
after team appointments will be distributed evenly among the teams alternately as they
register.
Any team that requires players to back up, or play up or across the team Coach or Team
Manager must consult with the Team Manager or Team Coach that they require players from
by halftime of the game they are requiring players from. The request can only be made of
players who have nominated that they are able to play up a year and taking into account that
a player can only back up a maximum 2 years above their age (ie. Player turning 5yo cannot
play U8) and the player must demonstrate the ability to play up. Opportunities to play or back
up should be shared around and not given to the same players if others are available and
suitable.
-
U6 then the other U/6 teams (only if numbers are short and the opposition has no
objection)
U7 then U/6 should be asked (U/7 only if U6 players are not available and the
opposition has no objection)
U8 then U/7 should be asked then U/6 (U/8 only if the U7 and U6 players are not
available and the opposition has no objection)
U9 then U/8 should be asked then U/7 (U/9 only if the U8 and U7 players are not
available and the opposition has no objection)
CJRLFC TEAM SELECTIONS AND BACKUP PROCEDURES 2013
MOD U10 – U12
This is a competitive draw and as such the best team should be selected unless poor attitude
or behaviour has been demonstrated.
All players will trial for the age group and not be able to select a specific grade (ie. A B C).
The appointed A coach within each age group will select their draft team based on ability and
attitude demonstrated at training and Trials 1 and 2 (may also consult with B,C coach if
appointed).
The Coaches Co-ordinator will then review based on their view from Trial game and discuss
with the coach. If a dispute arises both will present their views to the Committee for a
decision.
Any new registration after the team announcements will be allocated in the first instance to
the lower division team. If it is then deemed that movement should occur due to uneven
numbers in teams or the new players ability then this will be done in consultation with the A,
B and C coach. If a dispute arises the Coaches Co-ordinators will review and provide the
Committee with a recommendation taking into account both Coaches views.
Any team that requires players to back up or play up, the team Coach or Team Manager

level. Players must play a minimum of half a game with their own team to back up another
team. Under no circumstances should the Officials from the team requiring player approach
parents or players of another team directly.
Backing up should be taken from the Division immediately below the team that requires
players in the first instance. If players are not available then the next Division should be
asked etc. taking into account that a player can only back up a maximum 2 years above their
age. This should also be shared around if required on a regular basis.
