Peer revisions- Round One

PEER REVISIONS- ROUND ONE
1. You will sit next to your first partner and swap essays.
2. Read the first paragraph to yourself.
3. Take turns commenting on what your partner did well on/needs to
improve. As you receive feedback take notes. Focus on each of the
following areas:
– Hook (Interesting? Makes sense?)
– Summaries of each excerpt (Length? Accuracy?)
– Thesis (Recycle the prompt? Do they include the two answers that will be
mentioned in the body paragraphs? Is the thesis to wordy? Does it make sense?)
– Word choice (Any words repeated too much? Strong words they used?)
– Grammar (COPS- Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, Spelling)

1. You will sit next to your second partner and swap essays.
2. Read the second paragraph to yourself.
3. Take turns commenting on what your partner did well on/needs to improve.
As you receive feedback take notes. Focus on each of the following areas:
– Transition words (Are they included? Do they make sense?)
– Topic sentence (Does it recycle the first flipped question? Is it only about one of the
excerpts? Does it make sense?)
– Evidence (Is it introduced? Is it a direct quote from the text? Is it a strong quote choice?)
– Explanation (Does it explain what the quote shows? Does it explain how the quote shows
how the feelings and actions of a character are affecting an event?)
– Ending sentence (Does the paragraph feel finished? Do they need more? Less?)
– Word choice (Any words repeated too much? Strong words they used?)
– Grammar (COPS- Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, Spelling)

2. Read the third paragraph to yourself.
3. Take turns commenting on what your partner did well on/needs to
improve. As you receive feedback take notes. Focus on each of the

excerpts? Does it make sense?)

2. Read the fourth paragraph to yourself.
3. Take turns commenting on what your partner did well on/needs to improve.

– Transition words (Are they included? Do they make sense?)
– Restated Thesis (Does it restate or repeat the original thesis? Does it make sense?)
– Summary of BP 1 (Does it mention the argument from BP 1? Does it sum it up concisely?
Does it make sense?)
– Summary of BP 2 (Does it mention the argument from BP 2? Does it sum it up concisely?
Does it make sense?)
– Clincher (Does the essay feel finished? Does the clincher relate to the essay?)
– Word choice (Any words repeated too much? Strong words they used?)
– Grammar (COPS- Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, Spelling)
REFLECTION
• Return to your seat.
• Make a list of what you will be improving (Be specific. “I will
make it sound better,” “I’ll do what my revisers said,” or “I’ll fix
my grammar” are NOT specific)
