Core Casuals - Life Saving Victoria

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (P)
P1 (Z)
Core Casuals
The purpose of this procedure is to clearly define the expectations of an LSV core causal and outline the
benefits, support and alternative arrangements which will be afforded to core causals by LSV. The intention
is to ensure a clear and consistent approach to the appointment, onboarding and efficient use of
appropriate core casuals to support the delivery of the highest standard of training by these individuals.
Equipment
Core casuals will be provided with a full set of training equipment in order to enable the delivery of all dry
courses available under the LSV scope of registration. LSV will remain the owner of the equipment at all
times. The Core Casual will be required to provide appropriate safe and secure storage of the equipment at
all times to ensure that the integrity and quality of the equipment is not unduly damaged. The equipment
will be used for the purpose of LSV course delivery only and restricted to courses organized and
coordinated by the Public Training and Pool Safety Team. Equipment requiring replacement will be
returned to LSV and will be checked, reviewed and replaced by the Logistics team, who will invoice the
Department Manager through the standard monthly process.
Pack Up / Set Down
As Core casuals will be required to move equipment from their vehicle to the delivery location prior to the
course and back to their car following the course it is only fair that they are remunerated for this. It is
proposed that Core casuals will receive 0.5hrs standard rate pay pre-course to move and set up the
equipment and a further 0.5hrs standard rate pay post-course to set down and load up the equipment. For
course running across multiple days (i.e. Provide First Aid - Full Course) the trainer would be paid for a
single set up / set down for the course, and not a set up / set down for each day of the course unless
otherwise agreed beforehand with LSV and the delivery venue.
Cleaning
As Core casuals will be required to clean equipment following each course instance it is only fair that they
are remunerated for this. It is proposed that Core casuals will receive the rates remuneration outlined in
the policy “P2(B) Trainer Payable Hours to complete this to an appropriate standard in line with LSV’s
equipment policy.
Travel
The Core casual will be responsible for ensuring that they have and maintain a safe and suitable vehicle
which can transport the required equipment to and from each course. The standard LSV travel policy will
apply and is limited to the payment of fuel as set out in the policy. No further payment will be made and to
the extent permitted by law LSV will not be responsible for any damage or injury caused through the
transportation of equipment.
Qualifications
The Core casual will be required to maintain all required delivery qualifications as well as an appropriate
driver’s license as set out through the Casual Trainer contract with LSV.
Course Resources
Core casuals will be required to order and arrange pickup or delivery as agreed by an LSV Training
Coordinator with the relevant course consumables and replacement items of equipment in line with the
‘Course Consumables’ policy currently in place for the full time trainers.
