2007 NCAA MEN’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES Game 10 Quotes: UC Irvine vs. Arizona State Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, Neb. Saturday, June 19, 2007 Arizona State Head Coach Pat Murphy (opening statement): “I had a feeling today would come down to one run. Again we didn’t get out of the gate early. Immediately people will look at relief pitcher Jason Jarvis. He’s been unbelievable this year. He just didn’t have his extra gear today. He wasn’t as sharp as he’s been. The depth of our pitching staff was exposed today. We got it were we wanted it, the bases loaded with one out and didn’t get it done. We have to give UC Irvine credit. They play with a tremendous amount of energy. They’re a team of destiny.” (about relief pitcher Jason Jarvis) : “Jarvis has done that - loaded the bases and struck out the side - many times this season. It’s very unusual what happened tonight.” (about how Brett Wallace is feeling after the game): “He’s struggling. He was the player of the year in the district, and he had a tough series. He’s very disappointed he didn’t play better in the series. He’s a strong kid. He carried us much of the year.” (on comparing UC Irvine to ASU 2005 team): “As I said earlier, UC Irvine is kid of like our 2005 team. They’re scrappy. They play a different kind of game. They do anything.” Arizona State SS Andrew Romine (on emotions of game): “I’m still excited a little bit. I was here in 2005 and know what it’s like to get so close. I’m excited for the guys for next year. It’s a very young team. I’m as proud as I can be for them. You can’t be disappointed. We did everything we could.” Arizona State 2B Eric Sogard (about tonight’s game) : “We just gave them a few opportunities, and they took advantage of them. That cost us throughout the year. I hope that they let the disappointment go quickly and get it going quickly next year.” UC Irvine Head Coach Dave Serrano (opening statement): “I don’t know if I have words to describe what just happened tonight. I do know that the Anteaters do not want to take their uniforms off yet. We’ve had seven victories in the postseason and each one keeps getting better.” (about 8th inning rally): “Everyone looks to the last guy that gets the hit. Our pinch hitters took some good at bats. We’re making great at bats when it’s really on the line.” (about fan support in stadium): “These guys are so deserving of this. It’s a tribute to these guys. We’ve played three games here and I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of any games like these. We don’t want this to stop.” UC Irvine CF Ollie Linton (about game-winning hit): “Before I went to bat coach (Serrano) told me that I would be the guy to do it. I walked to the plate with positive thoughts. I was looking for something high and in. I got a curve ball high and I fought through it for a hit.” UC Irvine 2B Cody Cipriano (about the interference call): “I saw Maddie (Sean Madigan) hit the ball in the gap. I got a great jump on the ball. Once I get going, I can’t stop. I knew all I could do was grab onto coach’s jersey to stop myself. I knew that play wouldn’t hurt our chances to win the game.” UC Irvine Pitcher Scott Gorgen “I felt much better. that was me pitching like Scott Gorgen. When I was told to warm up for the ninth, I knew we had it in the bag because I was on with my pitches.”
