January 8, 2016
The Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, January 30 from 7-10 PM. Date Request forms
will be due back to the office by January 26th!! Tickets for the dance will be on sale during
lunch hours the week of January 25th. Tickets will be sold at the door to GSW Students
only!!! Any questions please see Mrs. Arrambide.
Attention – ALL Students MUST have a lunch ticket! NO ticket = NO lunch.
Due to MAP testing and late start – please remember to get your lunch tickets by 10 AM!
Ms. Spiezio needs 2 concession stand workers for TOMORROW = Saturday Jan 9th from
9:30 – 11:00 AM. This is a Boys’ freshman game. People still needing SADD credit and who
are not signed up to work include: Sydney Bartels, Cassidy Young, Tori Brown, Holly Swisher,
Devin Fisher, Brittany Seybert, Jazmine Williams, Alex McDilda, Delaney Miner, Mady Patten,
Riley Miner, Victoria Kezerle-Cole. If any of you are available this game would get your turn
knocked out.
Freshmen class: If you would like a freshman class homecoming shirt, please see the design
on Miss DeHeer's door (Room 207). Money and orders are due by TODAY, January 8th NO exceptions. PRICES = $12 for t-shirt, $15 for long sleeve and $18 for sweatshirt.

Any junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who would like to be an election judge for this
year's election, please see Mrs. Arrambide ASAP. Applications are due back by JAN. 13th. This
is PAID position. See Mrs. Arrambide for more details.
If you would like to take the COMPASS Test at GSW on February 18th sign up with Ms. Kilmer
by January 13th.

Attn ALL SENIORS: There will be a meeting during Homeroom on Jan. 20th to vote on Class
Color, Flower and Motto.
On Friday Jan 22nd, Tri-Point is scheduled to play GSW at Cullom. The Tri-Point NHS is having
a spaghetti supper that night before the game from 4 to 6:30 pm. Cost will be $8 for spaghetti,
green beans, garlic bread, ice cream, and drink. Basketball parents = in case you want to get a
bite to eat before the game. Thanks!
A Financial Aid Presentation will be held on Wednesday, January 27th at 6 pm in the cafeteria.
A representative from Joliet Junior College will be here to give the presentation. All college
bound Juniors and Seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend. There will be big changes
to the Financial Aid process later this year.

A very nice women's size medium warm winter coat is available in the Guidance Office. If you
are in need, please see Ms. Kilmer.
The Student Council still has shirts for sale. They are $15 and for every shirt sold we will donate
$10 to cancer research. See Mrs. A if you would like one.
If you would like to sign up for an ACT Prep class that may be offered at GSW stop by the
guidance office ASAP. The cost will be $25 per student. We need at least 25 students enrolled
to have the class. Other ACT Prep options are also available in the guidance office.

Softball Open Gym Dates = Attention ladies! We will be starting Open Gyms for anyone
interested in softball! If you didn't attend the meeting in December, no worries, you may
still attend these open gyms. We will be starting this Sunday, January 10th at 10:00 AM.
Any girl who is interested in softball, but not sure if they want to play, please come check it
out! If there are any questions or if you are unable to attend and want to play, please
contact Coach Galloway. Here is a list of other scheduled open gym dates. Hope to see you
all there!

GUIDANCE:
If you will be a SENIOR next year and are interested in taking the Local 150 program, please
stop by the Guidance Office to pick-up an application. Applications are due to Ms. Kilmer
by Wednesday, January 20th.
Seniors - If you are interested in joining IBEW Local #176, Electrician's, stop by the guidance
office to pick up a flyer listing the qualifications required and the application process.
Gardner Lions Club - $500 scholarship awarded to TWO graduating seniors enrolled in a 2 year,
4 year college, trade or vocational studies program. Deadline is February 5, 2016. For application

Delta Kappa Gamma - $1000 scholarship awarded to a female senior pursuing a degree in
education. For more information, see the guidance office. Application/essay deadline
is February 1, 2016. (Cindy Christensen)
Exelon is offering a $1000.00 scholarship to a deserving senior who is planning on entering into
a career of science or technology. This is one of our local scholarships and there will be one
winner from our school.
Any seniors planning to become a school nurse, school psychologist, instructional media
specialist, or social worker, there is a scholarship opportunity. Please see guidance office for
more information.
Students if you are interested in taking the ASVAB test at GSW, please sign up in the guidance
office. Students planning to join the military will need to take this test sometime before they
enlist. It is also a great way for any student unsure about his/her future career path to explore
areas that may be a good fit for his/her skill set. We need to gauge the number of students
interested before the test can be set up. Please sign up ASAP if you are interested.
Seniors - If you plan to enter the workforce after high school and would like help with your letter
of application and resume stop by the guidance office to pick up a packet.
If you have volunteered your time to improve our community and would like to be recognized
with the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award you can complete an application to be
considered for this award. More information is available at http://spirit.prudential.com.
Students, if you are interested in being involved with a county wide youth philanthropy group
stop by the guidance office for more information. This is a great opportunity to get involved!
Financial Aid Night has been set for 6 pm on Wednesday, January 27th in the cafeteria. This is a
very important informational meeting for any student planning to attend college.
JJC COMPASS Testing has been set for 8 am on Thursday, February 18th at GSW.
Juniors and Seniors - If you are interested in a week long program on government and leadership
this March taking place in Washington DC, stop by the guidance office to get application
information or visit www.ussenateyouth.org.
If you are interested in attending a private college in Wisconsin, please stop by the guidance
office to pick up an admission and financial aid guide.
If you are planning to take the ACT register at www.actstudent.org. See Ms. Kilmer if you need
assistance.
Pointe Pest Control - $750 scholarship for graduating high school senior. Must have a 3.0
