mLISD
As you may have heard Leander HS was selected as the high school pilot campus for the new LISD
Mobile Learning Initiative (mLISD). During the first few weeks of school freshman, sophomores,
and juniors we will have the opportunity to checkout a district-owned, convertible, touch-screen,
Windows 8.1 laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e). Please see mLISD information below.
mLISD Parent Purchase Program
As Leander ISD expands the mLISD mobile learning initiative to all students in grades six through 11 at the mLISD
Pilot Campuses (Canyon Ridge Middle School, Henry Middle School and Leander High School), the district is
pleased to announce the new Parent Purchase Program.
In partnership with CDW-G, the current vendor for student and teacher laptops, and Dell Computers, the Parent
Purchase Program gives ALL LISD families and employees the option to purchase their own student device at
discounted rates instead of using district-owned devices. These devices will be the same as, or similar to, the
student devices used in the mLISD pilot program.
Both CDW-G and Dell have created parent portals for LISD families or employees to purchase these devices. To
give parents more choice, these portals indicate “Good”, “Better” and “Best” options for families who are
considering purchasing laptops for their children.
The “Better Option” shown in the CDW-G portal is the same device, the Lenovo Yoga ThinkPad 11e, that the
district is using for the mLISD pilot program and reflects the base cost the district paid for the device plus the
licensing cost for Microsoft software. (CDW-G and Lenovo do not have the right to pass on the district’s
Microsoft “Shape the Future” pricing on to parents.) As a special offer to LISD families, Dell is offering the
Latitude Education Series laptop, a device generally not available to consumers.
We are excited that through our partnerships with CDW-G and DELL Computers, LISD families will have
additional options for accessing quality learning tools.
Options for Participation in mLISD
To participate in mLISD, families have three options:
District-provided Devices - Parents may choose for their student to use a district-issued Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga
11e Convertible laptop for annual fee of $70 ($35 for students eligible for the free/reduced-price lunch program),
which covers accidental damage protection, support and maintenance for the device. Devices will be checked out
to students, just as textbooks have been in the past, and will be collected at the end of each school year for
reimaging, maintenance and repair. Students/parents will not have the ability to install their own software on
district-owned devices.
Parent Purchase Program - Parents may choose to purchase the same or similar device through one of our
partners at a discounted rate for LISD families. Check out our Parent Purchase Website for more information

BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) - If a student already has a laptop that he or she likes to use for schoolwork,
parents may choose for the child to bring that device to school to use as a learning tool.
