NAME _________________________ HOUR _____ SUMMATIVE GRADE Oceania Atlas Page Project You work for National Geographic and your new project is to create a page for a new atlas! This page will also be placed on the National Geographic website for students and people from all over the world to use. Your job is to create a page about a location within the region of Oceania. You must include all of the items from the list below! The best pages will make it into the atlas! 1. Title: The name of the location you choose from your teacher. ________________ 2. Map: show the location of this place in Oceania. 3. Map: Show the shape or outline of this place. 4. CAPITAL CITY: The name and location and geographic coordinates of the capital city in this place. 5. ISLAND TYPE or CONTIENT: The type of landform this place is. (Either a continent, or one of the 3 types of islands that we learned about!) An explanation for the type of landform that this place is. 6. CULTURAL TRADITIONS: A photo that represents an aspect of culture from this place. A caption explaining what this example of culture is. 7. GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURE: An example of a geographical feature that makes this place unique. Show a picture of this geographical feature and give a caption explaining why this geographical feature is unique. 8. CLIMATE: What is the climate type of this place? Give a caption explaining the climate type and also the factors that create this climate. (Use your climate chart and factors notes in your World Geography folder as well as Culturegrams and your textbook for help with this. 9. POPULATION DENSITY: Explain where the highest population density is located and explain why this is in a caption. Use a map to show this population density if you can. Either create your own or use one that is already made! 10. CULTURE & CULTURAL DIFFUSION: What cultures or groups of people influence culture in this place? Where does this influence come from? Explain examples for how this place is influenced by culture (language, religion, etc) 11. Your atlas page must be drawn by hand, or printed on paper. (This means you can type and add images using the computer or print them and paste/tape them.) Your atlas page must be the size of four 8 ½” x 11” sheets of paper. Each sheet of paper shown here would be 8 ½” x 11” Your atlas will be hung on the wall in the 2nd floor hallway and we will vote on the best atlas pages! Includes a works cited of sources used in correct MLA format.– typed in MLA format and attached to the back of the atlas page. 5 x 1 Final product is written in student’s own words and student understands all the terms and information presented from his/her research including correct spelling and capitalization of place names (ask or research for assistance). Information is NOT cut and pasted from a source but is summarized in student’s own words. 5 x 1 Publishable Quality: The atlas page looks as if it could be placed into a book right now.
