Main Focus of Observation to be discussed with the ST in advance (please link to weekly targets but do
not limit comments solely to this focus):
Whole lesson
Lesson commentary –
Class entered in orderly way and logged in.
LP identified 4 SEN students. TA support
Builds on prior knowledge (2b). LObj stated on IWB. Keyboards up!
B4L – reminded of rules and sanctions recorded/ paused for quiet
Literacy: checked understanding on terms: vice versa. Missed opp to explain denary system: 10
Some/few: to achieve outcomes
Opp to rehearse prior knowledge, let use PC to clarify understanding of this. One student supporting new boy. Most sutdents all
able to write definition. Students read out their own definitions.
Gave crisp definition of computer process with examples.
Q&A: what units do we have? Mostly simple questions. Encourage them to be independent.
**Rather than ask if they want teacher to go over- ask one of them to explain the task.
Praise given for good work. Some misconceptions: student drew shapes rather than binary numbers. Moved around room to
check and praise.
Timing reminders given and timer used to bring them back.
Modelled the tasksheet required and completed 1st sheet together.
Timer for task 2. Task progressively harder so students can challenge themselves. Some worked out in head.
Rewards given.
Checked calling out. Asked for feedback re. difficulty 'I'm glad it challenged you'
Assessed worksheet with differentiation.
Plenary
Focus on assessment: thumbs up
Asked for feedback from students. EBI – students were able to identify honestly: to work faster
Asked students to give extended answer to explain question.
Analogy from eveyday life.
Very organised with clearing up and handing in.
