If you're under 19, you can
now get cheaper bus travel
with a free Choice iD card.
The Choice iD card allows you to buy
an East Sussex Freedom bus ticket for
£14 from the bus driver. You don't even
£16*
need to go to school or college.
The Freedom ticket gives you unlimited
travel on almost any bus in East Sussex
for seven days in a row, including
weekends.
This means that you can make the
most of your free time and don't need
to rely on a lift from other people
when you want to go out.
By using buses more you will also be
helping to reduce road congestion,
traffic noise and pollution as well as
improving air quality.

The East Sussex Freedom Bus Ticket
You are able to use the £14
weekly Freedom bus ticket on
nearly every bus route that
starts, finishes or passes
through East Sussex.
Some bus companies may operate their
own travel discount schemes so it's
worth checking whether these might be
more appropriate for you and your own
circumstances.
However, since the Freedom ticket is
valid throughout most of the county, it is
particularly useful if you have to change
bus company to complete your journey.
The East Sussex Freedom ticket
is available to:
• Anyone under 14 or
• Anyone aged 14-19 with either
• an East Sussex Choice iD card or
• an operator's discount/iD card

How to get your new Choice iD Card
If you are in education, your school
or college may be able to issue your
iD card. If not, you can get your iD
card from an East Sussex local library.
To get your card:
• Fill in the form on the reverse
• Confirm your age - If you are applying
through a participating school/college
they can do that for you. If you are
applying through an East Sussex
library you will need to provide proof
of age which can be your birth
certificate, medical card, passport,
driving licence or school/college
stamp on the application form
• Provide a current passport-sized photo
• Take all the above items to your
participating school/college or an
East Sussex library
The Choice iD cards will be valid up
to 31st August following your 19th
birthday, or up to your 19th birthday
if you were born on 31st August.
Note: If you already have a Choice iD
valid until you are 16, you can
continue to use it until the expiry date
shown on the card, at which time you
will need to apply for a new card.

The small print
• East Sussex Freedom bus tickets are only
available if:
1) You are under 14 or
2) You are aged 14-19 and either
• hold a valid Choice iD card or
• a valid bus operator’s discount/iD card which
is accepted by the bus company you intend
to purchase your Freedom ticket from and
also by the bus companies you intend to
travel with (you are advised to check with
individual bus companies) • If you are entitled to free school or college
transport you may be issued with a Freedom
bus pass. This is valid for the period stated
on the card.
• Choice iD cards are free. Lost or stolen Choice
iD cards can be replaced free of charge,
although a new photo is required. Lost or stolen
Freedom tickets will not be reimbursed or
replaced so please look after them carefully.
• We reserve the right to ask for further proof of
age before we issue you with a Choice iD card
or at any time before the card expires.
• Your Choice iD card on its own does not entitle
you to travel by bus. You must also show a
valid Freedom ticket every time you travel.
• Choice iD cards and Freedom bus tickets are not
a guarantee of travel. They are subject to bus
companies' own service and fare conditions.
• Newly issued Choice iD cards will be valid up
to 31st August following your 19th Birthday, or
up to your 19th Birthday if you were born on
31st August.
• If you already have an older type Choice iD
valid until the 31st July of your school year 11,
you can continue to use it until the expiry date
shown on the card. You can apply for the new
Choice iD anytime.
• Choice iD cards are issued to named individuals
and cannot be used by anyone else. They
remain the property of East Sussex County
Council and in the event of misuse, your card
may be permanently withdrawn.
• Choice iD cards and Freedom bus tickets are
valid with participating bus companies only.
Some bus companies also operate their own
reduced price travel schemes which are not
connected with East Sussex County Council
nor the Choice iD scheme.
• East Sussex County Council and the
participating bus companies reserve the
right to change or withdraw the Choice iD
scheme and/or the Freedom bus ticket
scheme at any time.
• Information in this leaflet is correct at the time
of publication (July 2013)
