Willi Tigers Netball Club Newsletter – August 2013
Willi Tigers Netball
Club Newsletter
President’s Report:
By Kelly Smith
Hi Tigers,
As we draw to the close of Winter Season, our
Committee has been busy in the background
and working hard to finalise the registration
of players for Summer Season.
You may recall in the last edition of the
Newsletter I shared with you many of the key
objectives we are working on to improve and
evolve our great club.
One of the most significant changes will be
within our Coaching Structure, as we move to
a new coaching structure with Adult Coaches,
& a Junior Assistant Coach for every team.
To help drive this new structure and assist in
the coaching and development of all of our
Coaches, I am pleased to announce that, with
the full support Marne Fechner (Head of
Coaching), we have appointed Lauren Timms
as our NEW Coaching Coordinator (Teresa’s
old role)!
Lauren has been a long time member of the
Willi Tigers, playing through the junior ranks
and has also completed her Foundation
Coaching Accreditation. Her sister, Melissa
Timms plays with our U17’s!
Outside of netball, Lauren is studying for a
Science Degree.
Lauren will be an asset to our club in this very
important leadership position and will play an
instrumental role in providing support to
Marne and the broader coaching network.
Marne Fechner (Head of Coaching) & a number of our
fabulous, junior Willi Tigers training at Altona recently
She will assist in the development and
implementation of our training program and
the mentoring and development of all of our
coaches and players.
Lauren will be closely supported by our WT
Playing & Coaching Leadership Group –
Rebecca Kennedy, Tara Shearer & Ashleigh
Botica.
Please join me in welcoming Lauren to her
new role & wish her the best of luck for
Summer Season.
CONGRATULATIONS LAUREN!!

Willi Tigers Netball Club Newsletter – August 2013
Coach/Team Report:
By Tara Shearer
I’m Tara Shearer and I coach the U11 Tails
team and the U13 Roar team.
Under 11 Tails
This team has had a really good season so far,
winning most of their games and are currently
sitting in the top 4. For the past couple of
weeks this team has been focusing on their
footwork and their passes. They have been
working really hard on making sure that they
are balanced before they pass, as well as
working on putting their hands over the ball.
For the next couple of weeks, we will be
working on putting the passes out in front of
the player as well as trying new positions.
Under 13 Roar
This season has been very challenging for this
team as they went from section 4 to section 2.
They have worked really hard on their fitness
this season, as the pace in this division is
faster and the level of intensity is harder. The
last couple of weeks we have been working on
being able to do the basic netball skills well,
when tired. For the next couple of weeks, we
will be working on playing in front when
attacking as well as in defence.
Player Profile:
Each Newsletter, one player will get to tell
everyone a little about themselves and what
playing netball with the Willi Tigers means to
them.
Ellis Finnie
I have been an active member of the Willi
Tigers Netball club for three seasons now. I
thoroughly enjoy netball and find it an
excellent way to broaden my social circle and
achieve greater fitness levels.
I currently play the positions of GD and GK. I
enjoy these positions because they give me
many opportunities to broaden my defence
skills.
I play for the Under 15 Claws coached by
Rebecca. This season has been a new and
unique experience, working with new team
mates and I have enjoyed playing on
Saturday’s and attending training on
weeknights.
My personal interests outside of netball
include reading (anything and everything),
theatrical performances, writing and tumbling
on tumblr.
Thanks for listening!
Fundraising:
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle:
We’ve approached Bunnings in Millers Road
about holding a fundraising Sausage Sizzle and
hope to secure a spot when they next release
their 12 months calendar of events later in the
year. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on the
date that we’re allocated and we’ll need
plenty of helpers on the day.
Winter – End of Season Disco:
Bec Kennedy & Tara Shearer have proposed
we host a Disco to celebrate the end of
Winter Season and recognise the effort and
sportsmanship of our junior players.
