Introduction
I believe that everyone is entitled to not only enjoy whatever it is is they chose to do, but
receive fulfillment and reward for what they do – however not everyone knows what to
do! A career that makes best use of our talents and makes going to work something to
look forward to and helps us achieve satisfying outcomes that make us happy and
content. If you are not in a career you are enthusiastic about, it is either because you
haven’t yet found out what it is you want to do or don’t know where to look or haven’t yet
had the motivation and courage to seek out and get what suits you and will give you
pleasure
We are all capable of more than we imagine and we have hopes and dreams that we
wish to realise. It is our doubts and fears that stop us pursuing them.
So how do we come to face our fears?
Making Change
There are three areas that you need to address before you can make any change to
start believing that you can have the career that you want and deserve. These are: your
attitude, developing your inner confidence and having belief in yourself.
Attitude:
You have unlimited potential! The only limit to this comes from within, and quite often
imaginary. This has come about through time and life and more often than not, from
other people. A belief is merely information accepted to be true, determine your attitude
and it will determine your future. It is our attitude that determines what and how we do
things in our life.
2
Performance Potential- What you can learn to do is virtually limitless. However, many
people cut themselves off from their potential by accepting that they are not good
enough – this becomes their belief, so they don’t bother.
Performance Capability – What you can do is limited to what you have learned to do.
The more you earn the greater the field of opportunity that opens up for you. Many
people are trapped by their own sense of incompetence. Move away from your own
self-imposed limitations, learn as much as you can about anything you want.
Actual Performance – What you will do, and how you do it is dependent on your
emotional state and your attitude at the time. How you feel about yourself, what you are
doing, who you are doing it for, who you are doing it with, where you are doing it, when
you are doing it and most importantly why you are doing it (this is the one that tends to
get lost), all this will determine your performance. While you perhaps cannot always
choose your work or location, you can always, always choose your attitude and how you
respond to everything around you.
People do have all the internal resources that they need in life. They just don’t always
realise it, because they do not believe that they are deserving or good enough for it all.
To start to change this, you need to look at the language of your mind – start thinking
about possibilities and yes, I can’s. I have a saying on my wall that says – Tell that
negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up – do it, tell it to shut
up and change your thoughts. Start gradually and you will be amazed how easy it
become to think of possibilities rather than ‘no, I can’t do that’s’ This will then help you
to change your attitude to everything in life and open your mind to all those ‘yes’
situations.
Confidence:
The relationship you have with yourself is THE most important relationship you have in
your life. It is the one that has a direct impact on the quality of all other relationships you
have – friends, family, even the guy down the pub or girl at the checkout – it all shows.
Confidence is how you show how you feel about yourself, how you see yourself and, as
we have already mentioned, how you speak to yourself.
Improve your confidence and your will enjoy all aspects of your life more.
Believing in Yourself:
How you think and feel about yourself is central to the enjoyment of your life. There is a
fundamental cause and effect link between: self-confidence, self-belief, self-worth and
3
what you achieve in life and work. This is a major contributor to you achieving your true
potential, how happy and content you are.
Why?





Limitation is self-imposed
The more you reduce self-limitation, the more you will achieve
Firstly, you need to recognise your limitations (note – this isn’t easy on your own)
Fear – fear blocks so many of our life paths
Learn how to recognise fear and manage it, this will in turn open up so much for
you
Achievers:
 There are those that do and those that don’s
 High-achievers (those that do) do not recognise what failure is. They see this as
not quite getting the results planned, and look for a different way to do so.
 High-achievers do not ‘make mistakes’ – they have learning opportunities.
Your Head
Our minds are programmable – how do you think you learnt to walk or talk? Beliefs are
part of our mental programming. You can learn how to change your mental programme
and stop being controlled by that negative committee. The more you think and see
yourself as ‘a winner’, the more you will be able to achieve in all areas of life. This will
give you fulfillment, happiness and contentment (who doesn’t want that?) A forwardlooking approach is everything – use the past as a benchmark to learn and move
forward.
How can I help you?
Around 80% of people who are in positions of management are below the level of selfconfidence and believe that allows them to build a successful career and achieve their
true potential. If you are part of, and remain in, that 80% neither the achievement of
your career or the realization of your ambitions can ever be truly met.
My goal, as a Career Development Coach is to help you achieve levels of self-belief and
confidence, which will give you the success, fulfilment and happiness that you know you
deserve.
Some questions to ask yourself to develop a clear strategy of how to achieve your
goals. I can work with you to help you answer these questions and develop your

very own strategy. They will provide the necessary help to make your strategy work
and ultimately to find the confidence, hope and belief to solve your own career
problems
Who am I?
What type of person am I? (is it the same as who I think I am?)
What are my values?
What are my needs and wants?
What are my family needs and wants?
What deep down are my goals?
What opportunities bring out the best in me?
Where do I excel?
Where am I wanting – does anything need addressing?
What are my known motivators? Are there any others that I am not aware of?
What are my beliefs?
What beliefs need to be challenged?
Where am I?
How am I currently perceived by those who know me?
How will I be perceived by others based on first impressions and track record?
Am I satisfied with this representation of myself?
Where do I want to go?
What sort of employment will suit me best?
What are the types of positions that should be in my sights?
Which industries offer these positons?
Which of these industries will be best for me?
What will be the barriers to achievement?
What can be done to overcome those barriers?
Which industry will be most likely to meet my remuneration expirations, without
compromising my boundaries?
What about working for myself?
