Winning Team Checklist

Does Your Organization Have “One Winning Team?”
Successful capital campaigns depend not only on an effective development staff. They
also require the buy-in and enthusiasm from your program staff, operations staff and, of
course, your board.
Use this checklist to see where you stand in the three primary components of creating
“One Winning Team.”
Break Down Silos
□ Does everyone know what’s going on in every aspect of your organization?
□ Do you create institution-wide opportunities for all departments to report on current
activities?
□ Do make sure that periodically the entire organization is brought up to date?
□ Do you call out occasions when you see everyone functioning as a team?
Working Together
□ Do you create an environment where everyone is accountable to everyone else?
□ Do you have a system of that diminishes blame and highlights lessons learned?
□ Do you encourage departments to help and support one another?
□ Have you created a shared language based on organizational values?
□ Do you have organizational rituals and celebrations?
Creating Transparency
□ Does everyone understand your organization’s financial model and the way different
departments have different income and expense requirements?
□ Do all departments know and regularly report and review their operational goals?
□ Do you use 360 performance reviews in which peers and supervisors comment on
manager performance?
□ Do people know what the ED’s job is and how the EDs work effects her ability to
respond to other issues?
□ Does the ED share the glory when things go well?
□ Does everyone understand the role of Development and how it effects their
program?
□ Does staff know who the Board is and what their role is?
□ Do key staff members have opportunities to make presentations to the board and
interact at social occasions?
