The workshop will include a review
of the three main Disruptive Behavior
Disorders: Oppositional Defiant Disorder,
Conduct Disorder, and Attention Deficit
Disorder. Assessment tools and diagnostic criteria will also be presented to assist
the clinician in confirming a diagnosis.
Developmental and social factors will also be discussed to give the participant a
theoretical framework. A review of the
benefits of using Directive vs. Nondirective techniques will be explored as
well as behavior modification principles.
Activities that help children express feelings, regulate emotions, and accept limits will be covered. We will also review
practical treatment considerations like
working with parents and schools to address behavior problems prior to serious
incidents. Experimental activities will be
used to help participants to gain insight
into the child's world. Interventions to
help build trust, teach self-discipline, and
develop positive social skills will be reviewed and modifications for a group format will be presented
