SIMOTION Motion Control System •ONE system for ALL motion control tasks •Tailored to machines primarily used in motion tasks SIMOTION provides optimal solutions to current machine requirements for motion control systems. Mechatronics – the revolution in mechanical equipment manufacturing Traditionally in the mechanical equipment manufacturing industry, specific machine functions have been implemented by combining and modifying mechanical components in complex ways.In mechatronic solutions, functionality is based on simple parameter assignment and programming in the motion control software. The conversion to machine functions is then handled by servo drives and standardized mechanical components. Advantages of a mechanical solution •Greater flexibility in machine design •Significant increase in the clock-pulse rate through optimization of axis motions •Reduced setup time allows changeover to a different product at the touch of a button, without changing any of the mechanical components •Reduced number of components subject to wear,as well as reduced maintenance costs Mechatronic-based machine designs meet the demands for: •High output rate •Uniform product quality •Flexible machinery •Short delivery times and low cost due to faster production Overview SIMOTION P is a PC-based motion control system, in which logic control, motion control, and HMI functions run on the same platform with standard PC applications. Benefits of SIMOTION P 7Logic control, motion control, visual display, and standard Microsoft applications are combined on one platform – ready-tooperate, no time-consuming installation required 7 Increased performance on a continual basis through CPU up-grades 7 Extremely simple engineering for logic and motion control ap-plications in the same program 7 Drives are connected by means of PROFIBUS-DP, including comprehensive commissioning and diagnostics functions 7 Extremely easy-to-configure HMI functions using ProTool/Pro 7 Open to Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based standard applica-tions 7 Availability of standard communications mechanisms via Ethernet Openness with Windows NT 4.0 Increasingly the boundaries between production and office en vironments are disappearing. SIMOTION P brings the advantages of office data processing systems to your equipment, such as: •Networking • Large data storage capacities •Data protection concepts •Integrated communication Application Engineering Software Overview The SIMOTION motion control system provides a wide variety of preprogrammed functions, yet it can also be configured and programmed individually. This requires powerful tools, which are easy to use while provid-ing optimum support for the required engineering steps. The SCOUT engineering system is the environment of the total automation solution for production machines with SIMOTION. As a component of TIA, SCOUT is integrated in the SIMATIC land-scape. SCOUT offers you the following advantages: 7 Comprehensive, function-based view of your automation task 7 Optimum user-friendliness. The spectrum of SIMOTION applications ranges from a simple, configurable variable-speed individual axis to complex mecha-tronically linked and programmable multi-axis machines. SCOUT therefore provides custom-tailored views for each task and can be supplemented with additional tools (for example, a tool for the graphics-based generation of cams). The following figure shows a complete overview of the various SCOUT tools. SCOUT, the engineering system for SIMOTION integrated in STEP 7, provides all tools required for the following tasks: •Configuration •Parameter assignment •Programming •Testing •Diagnostics Tasks such as the following are supported by graphics-based operator prompting: •Generation of hardware and network configurations •Generation, configuration, and parameter assignment of tech-nological objects, such as: -Axes -Output cams (programmable limit switches - PLS) -Cams, etc. The following programming languages can be used when pro-gramming a SIMOTION application: •High-level text-based ST (Structured Text according to IEC 61131) •Graphics-based flowchart language MCC (Motion ControlChart), optimized for extremely simple operation The integrated test and diagnostic functions are helpful for com-missioning and carrying out maintenance work.
