INSTALLATION MANUAL FOR A1A2 CABLE GLAND BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Raychem RPG A1 A2 type cable gland is for indoor and outdoor applications use with unarmoured cable. VISUAL INSPECTIONS: In a visual inspection, the following point applies. • Check the cable gland markings to ensure cable gland type is suitable for the type of cable. INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALLATION: Point Advice: 1. BS 6121: Part 5, EN 50262 & IEC 62444 for Installation and Maintenance of Cable Glands. 2. Installation should only be carried out by a competent electrician, skilled in cable gland installation. 3. No installation should be carried out under live conditions. 4. To maintain Ingress Protection ratings above IP54, use IP washers or O-rings for parallel threads. 5. The surface of the enclosure should be sufficiently flat and rigid to make both the IP joint, and earth contact where needed. 6. Earth tag is required, where there is requirement of earth connection. 7. Once installed do not dismantle except for occasional inspection. If necessary, dismantle by reversing the Fitting Instructions given above. The gland is not serviceable and spare parts are not supplied. Parts are not interchangeable with any other design. If manufacturers' parts are mixed, certification will be invalidated. 8. Be sure your installation complies with the cable construction: The glands should only be used with substantially round and compact cables with extruded bedding (i.e. effectively filled cables). TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: A1 A2 – Unarmoured Cable Gland CABLE GLAND TYPE : A1 A2 DESIGN SPECIFICATION : BS 6121: Part 1: 2005, EN 50262, IEC 62444 INGRESS PROTECTION : IP 66 CONTINOUS OPERATING TEMP : If Neoprene: -40⁰C to +100⁰C If Silicon: -50⁰C to +160⁰C CABLE TYPE : Un Armour SEALING METHOD : SINGLE SEALING IP WASHER : Nylon 6 O – RING : Neoprene / Silicon (Optional) (Optional) • INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION: Installation should be performed by a competent person using correct tools. • SPECIAL CONDITION FOR SAFE USE: 1. The glands shall only be used where temperature at the point of entry is between Neoprene for -40°C ≤ Ta ≤ 100°C (or) Silicon for -50⁰C to +160⁰C. 2. The glands used for terminating unarmoured cables are only suitable for fixed installation. Cable must be clamped to prevent pulling or twisting. 3. An entry thread seal may be needed to maintain the IP rating of the enclosure to which gland is attached. Note: These glands should not be used in any application other than those mentioned here or in our Data Sheets, unless Raychem RPG states in writing that the product is suitable for such Application. Raychem RPG can take no responsibility for any damage, injury or other Consequential loss caused where the glands are not installed or used according to these Instructions. FITTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR A1A2 GLAND:- Unarmoured Cable outer sheath, Gland outer body (entry nut), Gland main body & Enclosure. 1. It is not necessary to dismantle the gland any further than illustrated below. 2. Fit the gland into the enclosure and fully tighten the gland main body (3). 3. Determine the conductor length required to suit the installation and prepare the cable accordingly, removing part of the outer sheath where required to reveal the insulated conductors. 4. Slacken the entry nut (2) to relax the seal. 5. Pass the cable through the gland to the desired position, then tighten the seal nut by hand until resistance is felt (when the seal contacts the cable). Tighten with a spanner one further turn. Note: 1. If required, shroud for additional environmental conditions & operators safety, fit over the cable gland. It should be terminated to suit the cable diameter. 2. Earth tag is required, where there is requirement of earth connection.
