This plan helps people to save unused electricity when
nobody is at home. usually , when we leave our home
or move to another room, we forget to switch off the
lights, which results in a lot of wastage of electricity.
Leaving appliances like A.C,lights and iron box
switched on for a long time can also cause major
accidents. Hence we propose an idea of a door lock
which is capable of switching off the lights and other
electrical appliances once we leave our home. The
door lock can be prepared with a simple arrangement
in the normal door lock and can be produced at a
negligible cost thus saving a lot of electricity.

Competition
 There are some products in market which are
available at high cost, which cannot be
afforded by common person.
 Our proposal is to save energy with low cost
equipment.
 However in future tough competition can be
expected from other door lock manufacturers
if they produce their equipment in cheaper
price.

Major cause of wastage of electricity was during
the time when no one was at home because:
Usually, we forget to switch off the lights when in
hurry.
 The invertors and other appliances remain open
though they won’t be in use during that time.
 When we are leaving during power cut, we don’t
take the pains to check every light/fan in the home.
Hence, we are trying to focus on saving electricity when
we are not at home.

6 Thinking Hats
Based on the theory of
Edward De Bono
WHITE HAT

Major cause of
wastage of Electricity
is our
unawareness
and keeping the light switched on
while leaving the
home.

A major problem with some appliances is to detect
whether they are working or not.

Appliances like A.C.’s can burst if left unattended for a
long time.

at
Most short circuit accidents take place when no one is
home.
GREEN HAT

Manual Power cut off from Mains.

Check all rooms for any open switches.

Get machines that can be easily detected if they are in on-off
state.

Power cutoff near door lock.

Synchronizing it with a mobile.

A door similar to a refrigerator door.
BLACK HAT

If we have a manual switch, one can forget that too.

Checking every room is a tedious task.

Every room can’t be checked when in a hurry.

Extra equipment can be costly.

be
If power is cutoff each time we close the door, there can
no privacy.

Changing appliances is a difficult task.
YELLOW HAT
 More human effort is not required.

An automatic system would be much efficient, convenient
and reliable.
 A mobile message whenever we leave the appliance open
and
leave the house would be great.

The power cutoff should be incorporated in the door lock
mechanism itself.

The energy saving by tripping all or some appliances when
going for a vacation would be huge.
RED HAT

Nobody would make the effort to manually switch
off or check the lights.

People would be buying only products that ensure
safety.

Automatic system would be a better option.
BLUE HAT
Based on the facts and other information provided by
various hats , we came up with the suggestion of a
device “ Power tripping door lock” :

Whenever we Lock the door, some or all of the
appliances inside the door will go off.

The normal door lock can easily be converted into
Power Tripping Door Lock by fixing a negligible cost
circuitry in the lock.

Later, the device can also be synchronized with your
mobile set .



We can sell this idea to an existing Door lock
manufacturer.
We can produce the product and supply it to the
target segment.
A separate R&D department can be set up and we
can later improve on the idea by synchronizing it
with mobile , hence providing extra security.



The product being cheap, can be sold even at
local markets or existing market of the door
Lock.
The Product can be promoted on Hoardings ,
Internet and Media (T.V. ,Radio).
Safety Engineers and architects can be
informed about the product.



Financial : The product being cheap can be
produced at a low cost .Hence no help is
required.
Marketing : We need to promote our product.
Hence any help in this regard would be of
great use.
Strategic Know-how : Though we already
have a few ideas, yet any improvements in our
idea are always welcome.
(Real Leadership lessons of Steve Jobs)
The real lessons from Steve Jobs have to be
drawn from looking at what he actually
accomplished.
What do you think was his most important
creation?
“Apple” the company.
Making an enduring company was both far
harder and more important than making a
great product.


Focus :
Deciding what not to do is as important as
deciding what to do. Relentlessly filter out what is
considered distraction.
Simplicity
:
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. The
simplicity that comes from conquering, rather than
merely ignoring, complexity. It takes lot of hard
work to make something simple and come up with
elegant solution.


Take end to end responsibility :
The best way to achieve simplicity was to
make sure that hardware, software and
peripheral devices were seamlessly integrated.
When behind, Leapfrog :
The mark of an innovative company is not
only that it comes with new ideas first. But also
knows how to leapfrog when it finds itself
behind.


Put products before profits :
The motivating factor was to build an
enduring company where people were
motivated to make great products.
Bend reality :
It was a self fulfilling distortion. Impossible
is possible, when it is not realized it is
impossible.


Impute :
People form an opinion about a product or a
company on the basis of how it is presented
and packaged. People do judge a book by its
cover.
Push for Perfection :
Hit the pause button to be as beautiful as
possible, even if its inside the box. Real artists
sign their work.


Tolerate only ‘A’ players :
By expecting the people to do great things,
you
can get them to do great things.
Engage Face-to-Face :
Creativity comes from spontaneous meetings
and random discussions.

1.
Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish :
Always keep wanting something, something
more.
2.
Always keep an open mind, never think that
you know everything.
