Our Ref: H/Office/ExcursionsLB/LS October 2016 Dear Parent/Carer This term I am excited to offer your child the opportunity to visit the “Clothes Show Live” in Birmingham NEC on Monday, 5 December. The visit complements the design, making and marketing of textile products, and also provides an opportunity for your child to see how the Fashion and Textiles Industry works. The coach will depart from school at 7.00 am and return between 8.30 pm and 9.00 pm. Students should bring a packed lunch and although school uniform is not required, smart clothing should be worn. We will meet your child in the school bus park, at 6.45 am to allow time to register them before we depart. If you wish your child to go on this excursion please complete the reply slip below and return it to me at school by return. As the trip is open to the Year 10 and Year 9 Textiles classes there will be a draw for students in Year 9 for places as Year 10 will take priority this year. Once the draw has been made and students have their place confirmed, we would ask that payment of £45 be forwarded to school by return. After your child has been assigned to the trip payment can be made on line via Parent pay or students can take payment to Mrs Staton in the student finance office, located in the Languages block at break times Monday to Thursday. Under the terms of the 1988 Education Act, we are not permitted to levy a charge for this visit. However, no LEA or School funds exist to cover the cost and we are therefore seeking a voluntary contribution per student. However, the visit cannot take place unless each parent/carer makes the full contribution. You should also be aware that, should you cancel your child’s place after payment of the initial deposit, cancellation charges will apply. I can provide details of these charges upon request. If you have not already returned the medical form sent to you by Mr McCluskie at the beginning of the academic year, please return it with the slip below. Without this form we regret your child will not be able to participate in this excursion. If you have returned your child’s form but the medical details have changed please inform us of the changes. In order to make our trip to the ‘Clothes Show Live’ not only very enjoyable but safe we would like to stress that your child follows the following health and safety procedures. That your child stays with a group of no less than 4/5 students the whole time that he/she is unsupervised. We request that students do not have hair coloured, or have any piercings on the day as this is contrary to school rules. That money is carried on his/her person with great care and an awareness of ‘pick pockets’. We therefore suggest that monies are split into smaller amounts and kept safely in a bag/pocket/waist belt etc. That mobile telephones are carried within each group (preferably each student should have one), and that numbers are given to teachers on the outgoing journey – the school mobile telephone number will likewise be given to all students and carried by a member of staff at all times. Telephones must be previously fully charged. Cont’ ……. Comfortable flat shoes are a must for the day and comfortable clothes that are layered are best. You can always take off a layer if you are hot! Packed food – enough for the day in containers that can be thrown away after use. Food is on sale but it is expensive. Also take a water bottle that can be refilled during the day. We recommend that your child does not take part in any physical activities such as, trampolining, high swing apparatus, etc that was evident last year – just in case! That one person in each group buys a programme and floor plan and shares the expense with the group. Warning: Strobe lighting is used during the Fashion Show. The trip promises to be very enjoyable for everyone concerned and as long as everyone respects the conditions listed above we should all enjoy a memorable day at Birmingham’s NEC.
