From The Vice Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians
We are approaching the end of Term 1 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all of you for your strong support, encouragement and interest. Nine weeks have flown
past us and truly we have much to be grateful for. The first term has been exciting with
many fun-filled activities planned for our students. They had participated in a wide range
of activities and learning experiences. These included the P6 Overseas Learning Trip to
Malacca, the P5 Adventure Camp and the National Sports and Games Competitions.
These opportunities have helped to deepen their learning and fostered new friendships. I
would like to thank all the parents who partnered us for these events.
This term, we have also implemented the Keep Singapore Clean Movement in Schools
campaign. This campaign aims to instil ownership of school property among our
students. As citizens of the nation, students also need to play their part and take
ownership of public spaces in the community and help to keep the country clean. We
look forward to your strong support for this campaign.
We are also proud to share that Xinghua Primary School is among the top three for the
Reading Excellence Award 2017. The result will be released at the award presentation
ceremony on 20 March 2017. As all of us know, the big challenge for teachers is not
simply getting students to read; it is getting them to enjoy it too. Together, we can explore
ways to improve the school so that our pupils can be more engaged and better taken
care of.
Warmest Regards
Mr Richard Chong

ACHIEVEMENTS
Volleyball
This year marks a major milestone for Xinghua Volleyball in the South Zone Volleyball
Championship which ended on 17 February 2017. 3 of the divisions, Senior Girls, Junior Boys
and Junior Girls have clinched first position, with the Senior Boys as the 1st runner up. It has
been a remarkable feat as this is the first time that 3 divisions have fought hard to attain top
position in the South Zone since 2006.
Throughout the competition, the players exhibited the value of resilience, enduring and
overcoming strong opponents. It is heartening to witness the whole team coming together as
one, encouraging one another to persevere especially when the scores were unfavourable to
the team.
We would like to thank the parents of the players for their continuous support and we wish them
all the best for the upcoming National Competition which will take place on 6th March 2017.
Smiles from the champions

Total Defence Day
This year, the theme for Total Defence Day (TDD) is Together We Keep Singapore Strong.
Our school commemorated TDD by engaging the students with interactive class activities. Through
the activities, they understand the importance of unity and resilience and to put Total Defence into
action at home, in school and community.

P5 Adventure Camp
The theme for this year’s P5 Adventure Camp was NO MORE EXCUSES. The aim was to
encourage our pupils to stop giving excuses that limit them in their performance and behaviour.
Through the various exciting camp activities our pupils were made aware of their weaknesses and
limitations; to face these challenges and learn to overcome them. Indeed our pupils rose to the
occasion, complaining about the difficulties and hardships on the first day but emerging a more
resilient person who cares for others too.
