NEW FLOODLIGHTING ON COURTS 1, 2 AND 3 April 2016 You will probably have noticed that the installation of the new floodlighting on courts 1, 2 and 3 has been proceeding. At the time of writing this, the lighting is now working, but it needs to be tested, and the light spillage needs to be checked, to see that we are in compliance with our planning permission. These tests should be completed sometime in the week beginning 2nd April. The new lights will allow easier access to the courts during the winter months. Hitherto on some evenings coaching at the club has restricted access to the courts for other club members. We hope that members will make good use of the new lights. How to use the floodlights The new lights can be operated in exactly the same way as the older lights on courts 4 and 5. To turn the lights on you need a token which can be obtained at the club (just ask any committee member who may be present). The tokens cost £2.50 each, and each one gives 30 minutes illumination on one court. When you use the lights, bear in mind that there is a curfew time of 9-30 pm, and they are programmed to switch off automatically at that time, no matter if there are unused tokens in the meter. There are floodlight meter cabinets on the outside of the clubhouse building (on the north side). When you have your token, you can open up one of the meter cabinets, (a key is provided beside the cabinet, to open it). Put your token in the slot on the right hand side of the meter. The figure “30” should then appear in a window on the meter, this denotes 30 minutes of lighting. The lights will come on slowly, gradually brightening. When the lighting time is coming to an end (about 5 minutes before the token runs out), a warning light (either red or green) will come on. These warning lights are at one end of each of the courts. The warning means that the floodlights will switch off in a few minutes. If you wish to continue to play, then quickly put another token into the same meter. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTART LIGHTING AFTER IT HAS SWITCHED OFF. THIS WILL DAMAGE THE LIGHTS. If you know at the outset how long you want to play for, then you can put all the necessary tokens into the meter at the outset, but bear in mind the curfew time of 9.30 pm. Floodlighting is provided for social tennis sessions (for example on Wednesday evenings, and late Saturday and Sunday afternoons), and no charge is made for the lighting at those times. When you finish playing, please be sure to re-lock the floodlight cabinet, this will prevent rain getting into the cabinet, and leave the key for others to use.
