FOUR ARRESTED IN COUNTERFEIT CHECK RING, FOUR OTHERS ARE WANTED
The Leon County Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Unit began working several investigations in
reference to counterfeit checks drawn off of a local business and being cashed at Publix Super Markets
in July 2015. The counterfeit check ring consisted of eight individuals who passed nine counterfeit
checks at different Publix Super Markets throughout Tallahassee all drawn off of the same business
account.
The suspects went to four local Publix Supermarkets over a course of a ten day period in June and
July. The suspects used counterfeit payroll checks imitating legitimate checks from a local business.
The suspects each passed a counterfeit payroll check at a local Tallahassee Publix Supermarket. The
suspects cashed nine checks totaling $4,265.67.
Through the course of the investigation the eight individuals were identified and warrants were
subsequently obtained for each suspect. Four of the suspects have been arrested on their outstanding
warrants to include Helen Anderson, Andrew Bivins, Maggie Gibbs, and Shelvis Jones. Four other
suspects are currently wanted in connection with this investigation; they are Tammye Mickens, Tyshay
Martin, Laquisha Sutton, and Demeterica Bryant. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of
Mickens, Martin, Sutton, and Bryant are encouraged to contact the Leon County Sheriff's Office at 850606-3300 or the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800.
The Financial Crimes Unit reminds businesses to monitor their business accounts as this incident was
caught early by the business owner noticing fraudulent transactions on their account.
