KEY STAT:
· Through the first three quarters, the Fever shot just 32.7 percent from
the field (16-49), committed 12 turnovers and scored only 54 points to
trail by 12 entering the final period.
KEY RUN:
· After trailing by as many as 14 points in the final period, Tiffany Mitchell
capped a 16-4 Fever run with a steal and layup to give the Fever their
only lead of the game, an 87-86 lead with 31.4 seconds left in the
fourth quarter.
· Former Notre Dame star Jewell Loyd answered Mitchell’s layup with a
jumper to put the Storm back on top, 88-87. After Fever guard
Shenise Johnson tied the game at 88 with her first of two free throws,
Loyd grabbed the rebound as Johnson missed the second foul shot,
raced down the court with no timeouts left, drew a foul with 2.4
seconds remaining and sank the game-winning free throws to give
Seattle a 90-88 road victory.
INDIANA NOTES:
· Indiana posted its highest scoring quarter of the season as the Fever
finished with 34 points in the fourth quarter. The Fever shot 61.1
percent from the field (11-18), 4-for-8 from three-point range and 8-for9 from the free throw line while forcing seven turnovers in the closing
quarter.
· Tamika Catchings finished with a season-high 27 points on 9-for-14
shooting from the field and 8-for-9 from the free throw line. She
scored 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting in the fourth quarter.
· With one three-pointer tonight, Catchings moved into a tie with Nicole
Powell (580) for eighth place for the most three-point field goals made
in WNBA history.
· Briann January scored in double figures for the second consecutive
game with 15 points. She shot 4-for-5 from three-point range on the
night.
· Shenise Johnson finished with 13 points and four rebounds.
· Catchings, January and Johnson combined for 32 of the team’s 34
fourth-quarter points.
SEATTLE NOTES:
· Seattle only attempted nine field goals and committed seven turnovers
in the fourth quarter, but the Storm shot 10-for-10 from the free throw
line in the period, including Loyd’s pair with 2.4 seconds remaining to
hang on for the victory.
· The Storm set new season highs in free throws made (25) and free
throw percentage (.893).
· After shooting 52.8 percent from the field tonight, the Storm have now
shot 50 percent or better from the floor in four of the last six games.
· Loyd led the Storm with 20 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the field
and 9-for-9 from the foul line. She has now scored 20 or more points
five times this season.
· Storm guard Sue Bird finished with 16 points and a team-high six
rebounds.
· Rookie forward Breanna Stewart scored fewer than 10 points for only
the second time this season, but still finished with seven points, five
rebounds and game highs with six assists and three blocks.
