Working in groups of 3-4, create your own political party. You may use your knowledge of the existing political parties, but be creative to create your own. Your project will consist of the following: Party Poster (15 points) Include the following: - A party logo – a party logo is a symbol or drawing which represents your party’s platform. At least one slogan and/or brief description which will convince someone to join your party based on your party’s mission statement and platform These items should be included on a political poster for your party Making a brochure (50 points) Submit a six panel brochure using Microsoft Publisher. The brochure MUST include at least three graphics from clip art or the internet (sources). The first panel should be the title of your party. BE CREATIVE! The five remaining panels should include: 1. Your party’s mission statement. A 1-2 sentence description of the main ideals your party stands for. 2. An explanation of the name and logo you have chosen to represent your party. 3. Your party’s platform. Base your platform on at least FOUR of the issues below or on other national issues that are cleared by the teacher. Each issue should include TWO FACTS that are found and cited and YOUR PARTY’S STANCE ON THE ISSUE. Use Chandler’s library website as a great resource for research. Please site your sources. Submit a political button or a song which could be used for a presidential candidate for your party. 2. On a separate piece of paper answer the following: What segments of the population do you believe your party appeals to? Who is most likely to join your party and why? Would this party work in America today? Why/Why not?? Why did you choose this song or the ideas on this button? Presentation/Campaign Speech/Election (20 points) – You will be required to campaign and sell your party. We will be hosting an actual class election to see who wins for each class!! ** BE CREATIVE** IF you are absent TWO or more days in the computer lab, you will need to complete a research paper on the assigned topic instead of the party project. Your research paper should include: MLA formatted 3-5 pages 12pt Times New Roman Font Double Spaced 1 inch margins Topics: o Republican Party o Democrat Party The paper should include: o The history of the party o The issues that they deal with o What type of party is it? Examples include Splinter, Ideological, major, etc… o Who are some of the people that have run for office from this party? o What legislation has this party sponsored?
