Quick reference guide Before using any rotary file system: GLIDE PATH 1. Place rubber dam and prepare access cavity. The Cavity Access Set and Start-X ultrasonic tips are recommended. SHAPING RECOMMENDED During canal shaping, irrigate, recapitulate with a small-sized hand file after each sequential PROTAPER NEXT instrument, then re-irrigate. OPTIONAL The EndoActivator® is recommended for use during irrigation. 2. Prepare straight line access to canal orifice. The ProTaper SX file may be used. 3. Explore the canal using small-sized hand files, determine working length, verify patency and confirm a smooth, reproducible glide path. 4. Always irrigate and if necessary, expand the glide path using small-sized hand files or dedicated mechanical glide path files. PathFiles P1 and P2 are recommended. Use PROTAPER NEXT rotary files in a constant rotation at a speed of 300 rpm with light apical pressure. Clean flutes of the instruments frequently and check for signs of distortion or wear. 5. In the presence of NaOCl, brush and follow the glide path, with the PROTAPER NEXT™ X1 (017/04) file, in one or more passes until the working length is reached. The PROTAPER NEXT instruments are recommended to be used mechanically (manually in very severe curvatures) in a clockwise continuous motion. The PROTAPER NEXT instruments are recommended to be used with a brushing motion, away from external root concavities, to facilitate flute unloading and apical file progression. 6. Use PROTAPER NEXT X2 (025/06), exactly as described for PROTAPER NEXT X1 file, until the working length is passively reached. 7. Gauge the foramen with a size 025 hand file and, if this file binds at length, the canal is shaped and ready for disinfection. P1 8. If the size 025 hand file is loose at length, then continue shaping with the PROTAPER NEXT X3 (30/07) and, when necessary, the PROTAPER NEXT X4 (040/06) or PROTAPER NEXT X5 (050/06), gauging after each instrument with the 030, 040 or 050 hand files, respectively. P2 FILE X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 Use the PROTAPER NEXT files to passively follow the canal until the working length is achieved. Select the matching GuttaCore Verifier for PROTAPER NEXT; set the rubber stopper at working length using the verifier’s calibration mark; and confirm a passive fit at working length by rotating in the canal 180°. If the fit is not passive, use the Verifier as a finishing file to gently enlarge the canal terminus. 3.Irrigate. 4. Dry the canal using a matching, sterile PROTAPER NEXT absorbent paper point. calibration ring on the obturator. The calibration rings are set at the following working lengths (in millimetres): 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, plus 27 and 29 on the obturators. 7. Heat the obturator and when it is ready (oven audible beep and flashing light), remove it from the oven. Place the obturator smoothly, with one slow continuous motion, into the canal to working length. 8. Remove the handle from the GuttaCore Obturator at the orifice by bending to either side of the canal wall or firmly hold the handle with one finger and use a sharp endodontic spoon excavator to cut off the handle. For posterior access, the handle may be removed prior to insertion into the canal with tweezers. 5. Brush a very light coating of AH Plus sealer throughout the coronal-apical canal system using a sterile PROTAPER NEXT paper point. Then use an additional PROTAPER NEXT paper point to remove any excess sealer that may have accumulated on the canal walls or pooled in the apex. ® 6. Place the matching GuttaCore Obturator for PROTAPER NEXT in the ThermaPrep® 2 oven at the lowest heat setting (20). Set the working length with the rubber stopper by placing the stopper directly below the Fill one canal at a time. To avoid overflow of guttapercha, place absorbent points in the unfilled canals. Ensure the canal has been flared coronally so the GuttaCore™ Obturator has sufficient space to enter the root canal along the straight line access by using an orifice shaping instrument as necessary such as ProTaper® SX file.
