The Ice Age
• The Ice Age was a period of time where
part of the earth’s water was frozen.
• The freezing temperatures formed
glaciers, which “Locked up” much of the
oceans water
• This frozen water caused the level of
the oceans to drop
• When the water levels dropped, the
land that was under water became
exposed (Visible)
• This created a land bridge that
connected Asia to North America
The Land Bridge Theory
• hunter-gatherers, followed herds
of animals crossing the land
bridge from Asia into North
America and some regions of South
America.
Migration Map
USV Migration to the Americas
Causes and Effects for
Native American Migration
• Migrate means to move
• Many hunter-gatherer groups moved to
the Americas as they followed herds of
animals such as the mammoth and
caribou
• Hunters followed these animals on foot
• Because they moved to a new land they
had to adapt, or change, their ways of
living to meet a new environment
Create a multi-flow on the causes
and effects of early migration
Illustrate It
• Take a minute to close your eyes
and really imagine what the
Native Americans looked like as
they were crossing this land
bridge
• Below your migration map
illustrate what you envision this
journey to look like
