December 2015 CONGRATULATIONS! Your school is through to the 2016 Turkish Airlines Birmingham School Games – Primary Winter Festival! The winter festival will take place on Tuesday 9 February 2016 at the Futsal Arena, 20 Great King Street North, Birmingham, B19 2LF. The Level 3 Primary Finals Day will host competitions in Basketball, Para Sportshall Athletics, Para Football, Football, Gymnastics and Hockey with medal ceremonies taking place immediately after each competition. A separate Winter Celebration Evening will take place following the winter festivals, and will include cultural performances from across the city and presentations of the School Games trophies to winning teams on Thursday 17 March 2016 at Tally Ho Conference Centre from 7-8.30pm. The events will be managed by a representative of the relevant Governing Body of Sport and/or local clubs and supported by a team of volunteers from colleges and schools across Birmingham. Sporting Champion We are working on securing an elite athlete(s) for the event. They will be on hand to help open the event and provide inspiration to the participants. Please look at our Twitter page @BhamSchoolGames nearer the time to find out who! Cultural Competition With the Rio Olympics this year, we are encouraging schools to embrace the opportunity to raise awareness of sport and the cultures of the top countries competing at the games, including the hosts. We have allocated each School Games Organiser area a country, and we hope that schools will encourage wider pupil participation by undertaking such tasks as creating flags, displays, and learning about the culture of their given country. Prizes will be given to those that embrace the theme in the most creative way and they can showcase their work at the event. Photography consent Please ensure participants have completed photographic consent prior to the School Games Event. We will be undertaken some promotional activity involving media, which could include photography and filming. Should you want to take your own photos, please complete the attached consent form in advance of the event, and bring it with you. On the event day, teachers must register their teams at the registration point on arrival, hand in the consent form, or fill one in on arrival. Please note, food will not be provided for competing teams or staff on the day. We ask that you advise all competitors of the Birmingham School Games to bring their own packed lunch, fluids (preferably not fizzy drinks) and snacks to eat in between matches.
