El Camino Real Charter High School Students Partner with Major League Baseball Players to Clean Up Woolsey Canyon Contact: Eric Wilson, PhD, Director of Sustainability and STEAM Initiatives El Camino Real Charter High School 5440 Valley Circle Blvd 805-‐558-‐0980 (cell) [email protected] Woodland Hills, CA | November 10, 2014 – Students from El Camino Real Charter High School (ECRCHS) partnered with two Major League Baseball players this past Sunday, November 9 in an effort to clean up debris at Woolsey Canyon in the San Fernando Valley. The students are members of ECRCHS’s Action Team, part of a national youth volunteer program co-‐created by the Major League Baseball Players Trust and Volunteers of America. Local major league baseball players Rob Rasmussen (from Pasadena) and Kevin Pillar (from West Hills), who both currently play for the Toronto Blue Jays, joined the student cleanup crew as part of the MLB’s Action Team outreach. Action Team members were also joined by their classmates from ECRCHS’s Advanced Placement Environmental Science course. ECRCHS senior Blake Sperling captains the Action Team, which had its first outing in May 2014. Sperling worked to start the Action Team throughout his junior year. During their previous trip to the canyon in October, the Action Team collected and removed more than two and a half tons of trash.
