P a g e 2 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC 2 ) HISTORY Deepdene is the oldest continuously playing Club in the Eastern Cricket Association. Each year we play Canterbury (when they are in Dunstan) for the Boroondara Cup. This award was instituted during the centenary year of the ECA when we played for the honour on the Camberwell Sports Ground. The Deepdene Bears Cricket Club is fast approaching its "Century Season". Fortunately a considerable effort over many seasons has seen the documentation of many individual, grade, team & club records. In addition, the club’s foundation in 1920 has been pieced together using local papers of the time (Hawthorn & Camberwell Citizen) and where possible pictures and memorabilia from the descendants of past players. We have been very fortunate to have a copy of the 1924/25 premiership photo donated to the Club which now forms part of our historical collection in the Sturgess Pavilion at Deepdene Park. By way of background, the Deepdene Cricket Club was very strongly linked to the Deepdene Congregational Church, which was once located on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Leonard Street where the Winning Edge now stands. The club began as a social team before forming in August 1921 and played in a paddock in Norbett Street, Balwyn in 1921 and then at Deepdene Park from 1923 on land donated by Mr Alexander MacNeil. Deepdene Park officially opened in August 1924. The area was still developing in the 1920s with many new estates being built in Deepdene/Balwyn yet much of the area north of Gordon Street still existed as open spaces, paddocks, chicken runs and dairies. Today the suburb and surrounding areas are well established, as is the cricket club. One of the great milestones occurred in 1996 when North Kew Cricket Club, who had the Bears as their emblem, merged with the Deepdene Cricket Club bringing with them their own rich oral history. As exemplified by the statistical chronicle Wisdene, Deepdene maintains a strong written history. Many of the North Kew scorebooks were lost in a disaster (fire, flood or divorce depending on who you speak to) so we have to rely on history being passed on from generation to generation. In the same way that this is a valid tradition in indigenous society, it is fun to corner a North Kew elder so that he can evoke stories of the dream time when as Box Hill Districts they played in the Eastern Suburbs Cricket Association as the top team in A Matting. In the ESCA, North Kew first XI hovered around the B/C Turf grades and at one stage had the most feared attack in C Turf. The strong junior program from North Kew is the basis for today’s junior Bears activities. P a g e 3 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC 3 ) SECRETARY’S REPORT – JAMES PATERSO N It was a season of change for the Bears with a number of very high profile, influential club stalwarts leaving the field with the retirements of Leigh Parsons, Daniel and Luke Sturgess. Shaun Beattie also left to coach with his school leaving the Club to plan the transition to the next generation of coaching and on-field leadership. The 1XI were well led by Danny O’Shea with Andrew Zaicos and Paul Walter assisting him. Thanks to the ECA’s change of format with 8 team grades, the 1XI were in Wright Shield, which was a very high standard with no easy games. The fortunes of the 1XI fluctuated with the form of Walts and Danny in particular with some great wins, punctuated by some disappointing losses which generally included batting collapses. The efforts of Walts, both on-field but also with exceptional teaching/advice off-field were fantastic and we were lucky to have a player with his ability and character around the Club. Watching some of his innings was a treat enjoyed by all except the Glen Iris bowlers. The 2XI led this season by James Lindsay had a side that were expected to struggle, given the loss of senior players but ultimately should have made the finals. The team with Linds with Oli and a few other senior players leading from the front were very competitive. Linds leant a lot in his first season as skipper and with a core of younger players we look forward to improvements from the team. The 3XI very well organized and led by George (except for the length of time to bowl 40/72 overs), played a lot of younger players and were very competitive. The lack of depth in batting across the Club told in the end and a 2XI that was in the wrong grade ended up beating us and winning the flag. Well done to George for his handling of some difficult situations including explaining to LaTrobe the new rule (they know the Rules G) that ultimately resulted in George not batting one night (Dunny did). The 4XI Mark Warner, in his first season as a turf player, established a strong culture in their team, mixing a core of senior players with youth. Mark led from the front with bat, gloves and organisational skills and they would have made the finals except for the lack of depth across the Club to replace missing players. Phil Dunmill inc co-ordinated the juniors very well as per usual with others assisting and made a few runs as well to prove to Nick/Alex that he has some idea which end of the bat to hold. The Committee also worked hard to arrange great dinners, social events including the Neale Daniher MND night and bar service at both venues and a big thank you to all involved, particularly Wolfie/Polly/Mel. As usual, challenges will emerge for next season like MORE ECA rule changes, turf at Straddy, holes in covers, turf review, etc, and more help can always be used particularly with covers. Thank you to Matt and Dunny for all the unofficial support. P a g e 4 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC PR E SID E NT’S RE PORT – JASO N DO NOVAN Dear Deepdene Bears Community The 2016/17 season was one of change and development. Our off-field leadership changed hands, with a number of new members welcomed to the Committee. James Lindsay, Mel Braoudakis, Jeremy Quin & Oli Scheiber all joined on to take a role in leading the Club forward, with fresh ideas and enthusiasm. Our onfield leadership took on new shape with Andrew Zaicos leading from the front as Head Coach, while Danny O’Shea took the reins of the First XI and first time captain James Lindsay stepped up in the role of Second XI skipper. In all, four senior, two veterans and six junior teams represented the Deepdene Bears throughout the season. Although the ultimate success wasn’t achieved across the Club – our U16 team won the ECA T20 competition - two junior teams played in Grand Finals, while both Vets teams fell at the Semi-Final stage. The continued development of our young cricketers is exciting to see and we continue to strive for the right mix between the older brigade and the younger generation to lead the Club to return to Dunstan Shield as well as premiership success across all teams. We remain determined to achieve these goals with the support of the Coach, Captains, Junior Coordinators and Chairman of Selectors. Our ongoing negotiations with the City of Boroondara on the proposed relocation of the Club’s senior matches from Deepdene Park to Stradbroke Park North is my number one priority moving forward. It is unfortunately a long and tedious exercise, but one that we as a committee are fully supportive. Talks have recently re-started in this space, and I endeavour to provide you all with updates as the year progresses. Personally, I look forward to the day when we have all Senior teams playing cricket at Stradbroke Park on Saturday afternoons. This outcome will bring about a multitude of advantages, leading the Club to - and many years passed - its centenary season in the 2019/20. This season has seen the installation of new training nets at Stradbroke Park, which will provide a major boost to our training exercises. For those that haven’t seen the new setup in the south east corner of Stradbroke Park South, make sure you come down next season and check them out. Despite the delays, the final product delivers an amazing setup which provides the Club with top class facilities. Andrew Knox is stepping down from his position on the committee. Andrew has spent a number of years on the committee in a variety of roles, and has been a leader in many areas both on and off the field. Oli Scheiber has also decided to take a step back, with increasing work commitments forcing his hand. We thank these gentlemen for all of their contributions to the betterment of the Club. A key piece of work being undertaken by the committee is attracting more sponsors to the Club. There are many avenues we are currently looking at, and we will look to roll out our initiatives in the coming weeks. Our Club is extremely fortunate to have a band of fantastic current sponsors, Winequip, Paint Spot, Bendigo Bank, Colombo’s and The Harp Hotel. These sponsorships, along with the encouragement of our supporters on match days and contributions to social events and the major fund raising activities, is vital to the success of the Club. It came as a complete shock when I was asked to coach the Bears in season 2016/17 but I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to coach. It came as no shock that those around me were very supportive, encouraging and always happy to lend a helpful hand wherever possible and entrust me to do the best for the Club as a whole. I think that it is important to start a recap of the season at the last round of the season, where we had all four senior sides sitting inside or outside the four on percentage. An effort that I think that is incredible given the amount of senior players we had leave, the age of our current playing group and changes that we were forced to make week in and week out. For a season where we had all this change it was fantastic to see a large number of individuals stand up and tackle the challenge head on. From the very first pre-season training, there was a core group of players that did not miss a session whether it was a Monday evening in July or a blistering warm Thursday afternoon in February, these guys were at training and ready to go. I would like to make special mention to Nick Dunmill, James Watt, Josh Avitabile, and Angus Watson for really leading this right throughout both preseason and regular season training. I encourage you all to approach training in the manner they did and I can assure you future results will come our way. This year we were lucky enough to have an exceptional cricketer join us in Paul Walter. Paul, for all those who saw him play was an incredible cricketer on and off the field, he showed excellent maturity and leadership. Having such a talent around the club inspired others around him to excel at the game the way that he did. This was evident in both our batting and bowling. There were 12 individuals who made their highest score for the Bears with some excellent maiden centuries by Oliver Smart, Kumail Cadekiwala, Matthew Cheah, Mark Warner and Liam Gorfine. Our bowling was right on the mark in many instances with again over a dozen individuals who took their best bowling figures for the Bears. With seven 5 wickets hauls it was great to see so many younger guys such as Jack Morris, Hayden Salathiel, Adam Bettiol and Nathan Wade getting involved in these. Not to mention the effort from Matt Paterson that has come to be expected year after year. Fantastic work guys!! It was very rewarding as a coach to see so many great individual results and with some hard work and coming together as one I have no doubt that the Bears will see success in Season 2017/18. Also a very big thank you to Daniel Bowden who was an amazing help from the very first day along with Luke Sturgess, Andrew Knox, James Paterson and the whole committee for the support and faith you put in me throughout the year. It is always reassuring knowing that you have the full support of the committee as coach. I look forward to seeing you all in Season 2017/18 where hard work and dedication will see us back where we belong at the top end of the ladder and playing finals. Coach Zaicos - #gobears P a g e 1 0 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC 7 ) FIRST XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT – DAN NY O’SHEA Season 2016/17 was an up and down season for the Deepdene Bears 1XI. After being relegated by the ECA’s sudden rule change and losing several senior players it was time that the next generation of 1XI cricketers started to emerge. With the inclusion of our international professional Paul Walter we slowly started to come together as a team but it was not without a lot of hard work. Round one showed us that despite going down a grade this year was not going to be any easier than last year. We came up against a very switched on and ready to go Marcellin who made 192 in their allotted overs hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. In response, we were only able to muster together a measily 84 runs. This showed us nice and early the standard of competition that we were to be up against for the season. To our credit we bounced back winning the next two games. It was here were Paul Walter started to show us his class as a cricketer making a very impressive 99 in our second win of the year. Sadly for the side two wins would be all we would having going into the Christmas break facing the real possibility of getting relegated for a second consecutive year. With everyone knowing the situation after Christmas, we came refreshed and ready to go unfortunately it was once again not be with a loss to the bottom side straight after the break. With things, looking like relegation was all but certain the Bears fight that we have seen to exist over the years finally came out. Once again, lead by our professional Paul Walter making an unbelievable 165 against Glen Iris which included an amazing partnership with Shannon Grass (81) of 179 to lead us to 320. Despite tying the match, it was fantastic to see the fight, grit and determination to win was back in the side. Having 21 points out of a possible 24 over the weeks to come all of a sudden relegation was long forgotten and finals were now a real possibility. We went into the last round needing to win to play finals. It was not to be falling into our old habits and we were for the second time this year victims to Marcellin and missed the finals by 3 points. A special mention to Paul Walter for making over 700 runs including 165, 126* and a 99 along with 27 wickets, he really showed that he was a class above local cricket. Secondly I would like to point out the number of young cricketers that played this year. The maturity and ability to read cricket situations was most impressive, so thank you Nick Dunmill, Ben Hudson, Liam Gorfine, Josh Avitabile and Jacob Bevacqua. With young adults like this coming through (and a couple of more mature aged adults) I have no doubt the Bears are in good hands. We had a vastly different team this year with a lot of the senior players moving on, which provided a great opportunity for the younger players. At any given game, the average age of the team was roughly 21 and a lot was asked of the younger generation. They took this on board and it was extremely pleasing to see. We were fortunate to be sitting 4th at Christmas with a couple of wins under our belt and a couple of games lost by a handful of runs. The quality of the competition this year was on show and it was a lot closer than previous seasons. It came down to the final few games of the season, needing results and percentage to fall our way. Unfortunately, we were in a winning position in the final game but a few opportunities were missed and we ended up out. It showed everybody just how hard we need to work. We were lucky enough to have the talent of Dom Friel from England around the Club and his technique was on show from day one. A classy batsman, he showed his ability a number of times throughout the season and made some decent scores. It was great to have the opportunity to play with Dom and have him around the Club. Josh Avitabile made his mark in the 2s this year along with his opening partner Lucas Watt. Both boys made the opening role their own and the rest of the team could trust these boys to do their role.James Watt was our go to spinner for the season and had a number of standout games. Whether we needed to break a partnership or slow things down, James rallied to the opportunity and played a vital role. Hayden Salathiel was the new kid at the club this year and stunned everybody at preseason training with his speed and bounce. The work horse of the team he worked really hard this year and always wanted 1 more over. It was impossible to get the ball out of his hand, no matter how tired or sore he was. It was extremely pleasing to see the hard work this season from Michael Bell. Constantly trying to improve his game and the drive he showed to play at the highest level possible is a great testament to him. Todd Kitchen was also a constant in the team, week in week out he would bowl up the hill with the older ball and always attacked the batsman. He worked hard and regularlymade the breakthrough. His batting improved too and showed he can play a role with the bat and make vital middle order runs. We also saw the likes of Sushil Bist, Ben Hudson, Will Vergano, Jack Forde, Jack Morris and Oliver Smart all making their debut in the 2s this year. There is no doubt the Club has plenty of talent to watch in the coming years. Given the scenarios and roles these boys faced throughout the year, it provided them with a great opportunity to develop and learn more about their own games. A lot was asked from the younger players this year and they’ll all be better for it. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the committee for their support throughout the year. My first year as captain was definitely an eye opener as to how much work is required just so the boys can turn up to play on Saturday, so I’d like to thank Andrew Watt for all his help and support off the field. Also a massive thank you and to the support of the boys throughout the season. As a club we saw many new, young faces join the senior fold. It was therefore, for the 3XI, a time to develop senior leadership and playing skills with a firm view to making finals. The beginning of the season saw the 3XI exceed expectations. With the competition being as tight as it was, with one game the difference between making or not making finals. With some great wins on the board early in the season and some standout performances we were in a great position. Prior to the Christmas break we were sitting in 3rd and had become a notable force within the competition. A finals birth was becoming a firm realisation. The younger players had certainly stepped up to the mark with notable performances. Unfortunately, post Christmas success was not as anticipated. Player availability became quite a concern. To note – 37 players rotated through the 3XI this season with on more than one occasion past and retired players being called upon to assist team numbers. With some close losses (still losses none the less) particularly to Bulleen it was going to be a close race home. And close it was……..with our finals campaign being dependant on the last few games of the home and away season. Playing the top team in the last of the home and away matches (Old Carey) the boys dug in hard. Old Carey knew that we were the threat in the finals, particularly when playing with a full squad. They clearly knew that it may come down to percentage so defended the last 3 overs by only making 1 run and giving up no wickets. It was extremely disappointing to miss playing finals by the shortest of margins. However, the season can and should be seen as one of success. Watching players such as Jack Morris, Oliver Smart, Will Vergano, Jack Forde, Lucas Watt, Hayden Salathiel, Matt Cheah, Sushi Bist and many more have the opportunity to play at highest level is a great indication of the depth the club has for its future. It is now up to us all to enhance, develop and assist those younger players to ensure Deepdene Bears success. We have the talent – it’s now imperative that we nurture it. Congratulations to our 3XI award winners for the year. An impressive season for Harvey Brimicombe with the bat – 177 runs @ 35.4 and Jack Morris, one of our younger and extremely promising standouts taking the bowling award with 16 wickets @ 20.5 plus Sushi Bist winning H.C. Stanford (Fielding) Award. I take this opportunity to thank the committee and club for allowing me the honour to Captain once again. Whilst not the outcome we hoped for….I can say unequivocally our future is looking bright. We saw some excellent individual and team achievements throughout the year but also disappointingly missed out on finals after not winning a game after the Christmas break. We introduced 5 new players to the team this year, including a couple of played the majority of games for us and had a big impact. No-one more so than Delan Daniels who had an excellent year with the bat to win the team’s batting average. We did get to see some highlights from young players who will hopefully be contributers for the club for a long time to come. Notably we saw Jonno Walshe take his first senior wicket, and welcomed Hamish Wild back to the team after a good season last year and he took his first senior 5-fa. We also witnessed Matt Cheah score his first hundred in a tight game to see us to a win, it was a mature innings from a young player and we look forward to seeing many more from him. Mark Warner also scored his first hundred as part of a partnership with Delan to see us to another big team win against Mont Albert which we all enjoyed. Another Dunmill joined the Bears senior ranks with Alex featuring in a few games. His confidence grew with each game as he started to bowl well and scored his first senior runs. He carried the form into the junior finals to score his first 50 in a great achievement for him. At the other end of the Dunmill clan Phil also scored a 50 this season in quick time to get us off to a flyer. Adam Bettiol, another new inclusion for club, took out the bowling average for the year and was a real workhorse for us. He bowled an increasing number of overs as the year went on including 17 in the final game as we lost a couple of people to injury. He was also recognised for his early season form with a stint in the 3s and no doubt he’ll be there regularly next year. As a team we had some great wins early in the season and went into the break sitting in 3 rd spot. As the juniors went back to school cricket and a couple of players became unavailable we started to struggle for numbers which was reflected in the results after Xmas. With the players we brought in for the year and those returning, there’s no doubt the 4s will be a stronger team next year and will push towards the finals. I need to say a big thank you to all players who helped us during the year when we struggled for numbers. Particularly to Paul Molloy, Phil Dunmill and Doc Vawser who all played consistently throughout the year to ensure we had a competitive team. Special mention also to Paul and Phil for their help off the field with afternoon teas and chasing players for me. Thank you also to Charlie Warner who was a fantastic vice captain giving his time to the younger players to help their development. Thanks to our major sponsor Fletchers Real Estate, and association support through Prostate Cancer Awareness, which appropriately had a visual reminder for all Vets players every week with a blue middle stump and 2 blue bails at each end of the wicket. I also want to thank Cam Dunn and Julian O’Reilly for their hard work over the past several seasons to keep this team “on the map”. It takes a lot of work, and without their persistent determination and input over this period, there could well have been no team around today. The 2016/2017 definitely had some highs and not-so-highs. We won 4 of the 7 home and away games (along with 3 other teams), but our percentage was enough to play finals ahead of Burwood and Mt Waverley. Unfortunately we were outplayed by Notting Hill in the semi final, but I still rate it as a successful season. The Bear Vets lifted and played some real inspiration cricket at times. Of the 4 wins for the season, we beat all 3 teams above us in the finals -Notting Hill BP who have now won the last 2 flags, Kew who were undefeated until the GF and Surrey Hills who were undefeated until we knocked them off in the penultimate round of the season. The competition is a very solid standard, and has a sprinkling of ex District players (and one former international player Simon O’Donnell), so it is “game on” every week. The wins we had against quality opposition were fantastic to be a part of. To beat sides of this quality takes input from all players all day with no low spots, and plenty of special moments. To say I was proud of the guys on the special wins would be a massive understatement. After everyone has given their all on the day, there are 3 main objectives to walk away with: 1 . Did I get though without injury (major soreness is a given, not and an injury)? 2 . Did I enjoy spending the day with some real quality blokes, playing a good standard of cricket? 3 . Can we get Voltaren to sponsor the Vets comp? One of the reasons for the Bears making the finals was the versatility of the side. There were many options with variable styles of bowling. I was fortunate enough to have many quality bowlers at my disposal from quicks to right arm orthodox, to left arm orthodox, to right arm seamers/swingers, to left arm seamers/swingers, etc. Our most prolific wicket takers were the speedster Brookesy, and Cam Dunn with his outswingers/seamers. Special mention to Polly who I used to open the bowling on many occasions with his accurate and aggressive offies which not only got us off to a good start, but they were also miserly and he finished with the lowest run rate per over from squad. There are many great memories from the year, but if I had to highlight one, it would be the game against Kew at their home ground in round 5. It was a tough job on the field, but we finished our bowling with innings with Kew 7/162 off the allotted 36. Watty in his first game opened the batting with Jock McRae against a good bowling line-up. Anton was in in the 2nd over, and was joined by Joe Powell in the 8th. Kew were trying to force their dominance on the game, but Anton and Joe had other plans. They started getting away, so Kew brought on Simon O’Donnell. Anton liked what he saw and spanked 10 off his first over, then this pair hit another 8 and 6 from his next two overs to see him off. Anton continued spanking the attack and retired on 43. Joe played a typical innings with his trademark classical/effortless strokes that got appreciation from the opposition crowd that came down to watch SOD. He too retired on 43. P a g e 1 6 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC In summary, it was an enjoyable season, and it was great to see some old Bears come to play in the Vets (Watty, Golly and Thomo). Not only do I hope they come back for more, but I hope to convince another few vet-qualified boys back into the playing ranks. As mentioned many times this year, I could not have done this role without the massive input and assistance from Cam, Jules and Polly. Thank you again gents. You guys are true clubmen!!! Thank you all, and see you next season. Dolly. P a g e 1 7 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC 12) VETERAN S – DIVISION 2 - TONY S MITH Another great season, the 8th in a row for the original crew. In a close fought league (after going up to Division 2 due to an administrative error in ECA), we finished 4th prior to finals, and were confident going to the semi. Batting first we were dismissed for a dismal 95, with Edinburgh losing 2 wickets to pass us. We had some excellent recruits, with fairly healthy stocks for the year. Looking forward to next season. P a g e 1 8 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC 1 3 ) JUNIORS – PHILIP DUNMILL This season we competed in the following ages/grades: Age/Grade Coach/Manager Milo U10 U12C U12B U14C U16C U16A Phil Dunmill Liam Mott/ Luke Lindner Phil Dunmill James Watt & Josh Avitabile/Teresa Ewart Ben Hudson/ Phil Dunmill Paul Walter/Adrian A’Hearn Pat Slingo/Paul Vergano Combined with Bulleen CC Combined with Bulleen CC At the end of the season we had 53 boys play across our under 10s through to our under 16s, of which eight put the Bear’s cap on for the first time. In our Milo program we saw six junior participants. It is noted that junior numbers were slightly lower than last year and this will be reviewed pre-season 2017/18 with particular reference to the lower ages so players can stay and play with the Deepdene Bears for their entire career. Along the way we had success with one premiership (T20 U16A) and two runners up (U14C and 16Cs) Jack Carey represented the Deepdene Bears in the Eastern Association U12 team and it is anticipated that Neel Murshed will win the U14C’s Association bowling average. Coaching this year saw some fresh young faces, with Pat Slingo, James Watt, Josh Avitabile and Ben Hudson coming on board and doing a great job nurturing the future of the Deepdene Bears. This season we saw the senior debut of Alex Dunmill, who played a number of games with the 4XI. It is hoped that next season more juniors can get games in the senior teams although it is difficult competing with private school cricket for their Saturday afternoon. 2016/17 Results and Awards. MEETING COMMENCED: 7.50 pm 2. ATTENDEES: James Paterson, Phil Warner, Phil Dunmill, Andrew Watt, Andrew Knox, Daniel Bowden, Shaun Beattie, David Gorfine, Paul Molloy, Matt Paterson, Rob Blowers, Jeremy Quin, Pat Slingo, Oli Scheiber, James Lindsay, George, Melinda Braoudakis, Liam Gorfine, Andrew Zaicos, Fraser Heron-Paterson, Charlie Warner, Luke Sturgess, Danny O’Shea, Nathan Wade. 3. APOLOGIES: Michael Hudson, Mark Sturgess, Mark Warner, Dan Sturgess, Jason Donovan, Arthur Bell. 4. MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING - Approved from AGM 23 June 2015. 5. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Phil Warner indicated he was standing down and outlined highlights of his term and some issues. He indicated that Club was committed to having larger covers for start of next season and that the negotiations with Boroondara are frustrating but ongoing. 6. TREASURER’S REPORT: Andrew Watt indicated as per his report. The balance at the start of the year was around $3000 less than start which wasn’t good in an Auction year (which made $13,000). Income down due to non receipt of Bendigo Bank sponsorship (sponsorship overall very good at $18,000) and bar impacted with washouts and early finish to season. 7. SECRETARY’S REPORT: ECA has started looking at options for 8 team grades with likely format of playing every time twice. Reserve days likely down to 2XIs only with a possible additional Sunday to fit in the 14 games. This issue was discussed and the consensus was that Club would accept 3s and 4s not playing Reserve Days etc as too hard to manage 44 players to back-up on those days. The City of Boroondara has not updated the Club on synthetic nets for next season but likely to be ready for part of next season. P a g e 3 3 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC 8. VICE PRESIDENT CRICKET OPERATIONS Work has been happening behind the scenes with professional players/coaching etc. It will be a challenge with a changing of the guard in 1XI. Looking for more people to assist with securing sponsorship ie promotional signage from Real Estate Agents, laying covers etc 9. MARKETING / SOCIAL REPORT: No report. 10. 1XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT: As per Annual report. 11. ASSETS AND MAINTENANCE: The City of Boroondara is still to confirm intentions re a new turf pitch at Stradbroke North , but we expect to continue as per arrangements from last season. 12. ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS FOR SEASON 2015/16: PRESIDENT VICE PRESIDENT 1 VICE PRESIDENT 2 SECRETARY TREASURER JUNIOR COORDINATOR GENERAL COMMITTEE AUDITOR 13. Jason Donovan Luke Sturgess (Cricket Operations) Paul Molloy (Club Operations) James Paterson Andrew Watt Phil Dunmill Daniel Bowden, Charlie Warner, Andrew Knox, Mel Braoudakis, James Lindsay, Oli Scheiber, Jeremy Quin, Rob Merriel SEASON SUBSCRIPTIONS AND MATCH FEES The following subscriptions were adopted: Senior Students Juniors $300 $250 $180 P a g e 3 4 of 4 0 D e e p d e n e B e a r s CC Committee will add value, such as one Presentation Night ticket or possibly clothing. Committee will look at an incentive for early payment. Match Day Fees Senior $15, student/junior $10 (if ECA official umpire attends); or Senior $10, student/junior $5 (if no ECA official umpire attends) 14. ECA TEAM NOMINATIONS Senior team nominations for 2015/16 were recommended as follows: 15. 4 x ECA Turf, 1 in synthetic one-day competition 2 x VETS (ECA comp) LIFE MEMBERSHIP Dave Molloy and Luke Gartner were nominated by the Committee for life membership. Dave Molloy played from 1991 – 2006 and played around 122 games. Fastest bowler in ECA for many seasons, he was captain, on committee and coached the Club for several seasons. Dave is currently playing Vets and was the ultimate team man who could always be called one for that last final effort to try and change the course of a game. Luke Gartner played juniors and then seniors from 1998 to 2013 and played around 118 games. Luke started as a very promising bat, and then became a very frugal into the wind, uphill bowler before finishing as a batsman in his final season. His contribution both on and off field was outstanding and he was VC in our first Dunstan premiership. Luke retired due to ongoing health issues but finished with a century in Dunstan. Luke was for many years on Committee as part of the social organising. The AGM voted in Dave and Luke as life members with a ceremony to be held late 2016. 16. OTHER ISSUES Steve Rimer attended start of meeting to announce he was leaving to coach Heathmont. Steve was thanked for his efforts on behalf of Club. 17.
