Digital Image Speckle Correlation Minutes of Meeting – 3/4/16 (1:00 PM US Central) Present on the Call: Terry Fischer (Hitachi Chemical) Professor Lu (Ryerson University) Thilo Sack (Celestica) Laurence Schultz (HDPug) Discussion Details: While awaiting other team members to join the call, Thilo gave Terry a view of the previous meeting with other HDPug members who signed up for this project. An earlier project has done the reliability testing on some of the stacked via structures and HDPug has the data. There are also bare boards left over that haven’t been through Thermal Cycling for some of these same configurations. These boards will be ideal as they will provide a direct correlation between what failed in ATC (and when it failed) verses some virgin structures for Professor Lu to analyze. There is the question arises as to how to prep the boards for Professor Lu to analyze. Thilo will move the team toward a Capibility Study prior to committing full resources. When Professor Lu joined the call, Thilo spoke of Professor Lu‘s project proposal for stacked via structures and gave an overview of an approach using reliability data from a previous project, along with virgin boards to evaluate how Digital Speckle agreed with the data. The question of board preparation was also discussed. Thilo asked if Professor Lu agreed that this would be a good first step, and Professor Lu agreed (8:13). He had seen that the team from the previos project had accumulated a large volume data, some of which agreed with his hypothesis; some of which did not. Thilo said that one of the things needed was for us to map the“As Received“ boards verses those which have been stressed, but that we should not begin by analyzing every combination. We should pick a couple for Professor Lu to prove the concept, then go back and analyze the remaining 12 or 14 samples to complete the data set. Thilo suggested that we look at a couple of boards for which we have the reliability data and try to select boards where the reliability data is significantly different enough that when Professor Lu does his analysis, we would expect to see a bigger difference. That way we would know that Digital Speckleis showing the same order of magnitude difference as was seen in the reliability data. Professor Lu agreed that this approach makes sense. Thilo’s next question was if this approach were taken would Professor Lu still need a graduate student in order to accomplish this phase of 5722 E. Professor Lu replied that by starting with the measurements, he can give some quick results and others will be interested. He was confident that we be able to do that. The one concern that Thilo, Ivan and Bill had was around sample preparation and how to cross-section the parts for Professor Lu‘s team to do the Digital Speckle analysis, and as a result of the cross-section would we stress relieve certain of the structures, and potentially influence the results. Professor Lu answered that a symetrical place, either front to back or side to side, would have to be used for the crosssection. Thilo suggested that, as a next step, we would talk to bill to find out which samples we have as-received boards for. From there we will decide which ones we are going to use. We will need a very detailed set of instructions on how to go about cross-sectioning them. Professor Lu said that that will require a couple more conference calls once they determine which kind of test vehicle they want to persue. Laurence’s input was that, before moving forward, the team needs to define exactly what we will do. Thilo and Terry agreed. Laurence asked what days would be best for this call which allow advanced notice so that the other team members can get it on their calendars. Professor Lu is currently on sebatical and has a month-long trip to China scheduled for April. Other than that, his schedule ispretty clear. Thilo has a standing meeting from noon until 1 PM (CDT) on Thursdays, otherwise Thursdays work well for both he and Terry. Terry suggested Thursdays at 8:00 AM CDT, which works for everyone. Thilo will be travelling next week and APEX is in 2 weeks. March 24 was selected as the date for the next call. Thilo volunteered to draft up a synopsis of our discussion today. The meeting ended at 1:27 PM. Action Items: Laurence1 . The next team call is scheduled for 3/24/16 at 8:00 AM CDT. 5722 E.
