HEADTEACHER’S HEADLINE
Now we are in December, Christmas is fast approaching! There are lots
of lovely events coming up and we are looking forward to sharing them
with you. Our younger children are all involved in rehearsing for
Christmas concerts, please look out for when you can come and see
your child/ren. Our drama and choir clubs are combining for a Christmas
concert and everyone is welcome.
The end of term is always busy and there can be a lot of bugs and
illness. We do ask that children are not in school for 24 hours after
sickness or upset stomachs, but we are happy to administer medicine
for coughs and colds etc so children can return to school as soon as
possible. Parents should take any medicines to the office and sign a
consent form. Learning carries on right up until the end of term, so
please make sure your child/ren are in school, on time every day.
Staff in school always try to deal with any issues between children in
school, as soon as we know about them. Parents should always talk to
staff if they have a concern and not speak to other children involved
SCHOOL LIFE
Last week saw many children from Y5 & 6 going Sumdog mad!
They had entered the West Sussex Maths Competition, which
involves children answering as many maths questions as possible,
(up to a maximum of 1000) through playing computer games. The
children had passwords to play at home, but many chose to
attend the sessions in Miss Taylor's classroom at lunchtime, with
up to 50 children sharing a computer daily. The enthusiasm and
excitement levels were high, demonstrating their positive attitude to maths.
There are many successes to celebrate, the most noteworthy of which are: Out of 388
classes who took part across West Sussex, 6TC came 34th, 6JT 43rd, 5LS 96th & 5LH 99th.
In terms of individual success, our highest ranking pupil (of the 4364 who took part) was
George in 6TC who came 36th! Ritika in 6JT came 197th, Scott in 5LH 480th and Damien in
5LS ranked 621st. We are delighted by the effort the children put into this and the results
they achieved! The next competition started on Thursday 3rd December and lasts for 1 week
- watch this space to see how we got on!
Exciting times for Choir Club!
The reformed choir now has 64 members with more
asking to join! Their first appearance will be at the Drama
club Christmas carol performance on Tuesday 15th
December at 4pm. Ms Harding has sent home a sheet
with all the words and internet links for the children who
attend Choir to practice. If your child cannot access the
internet please ask them to go and see Ms Harding.
This week the Home-start Bear came to
visit us at school!
Home-Start Crawley, Horsham and Mid-Sussex
(CHAMS) are a wonderful charity that offers
friendship and support to local families with a
child under five years. Children need a happy,
secure childhood and parents play the key role
in giving their children a good start in life and
helping them achieve their full potential.
Home-Start is able to help where there are
issues such as isolation, neglect, financial
hardship, illness, disability, bereavement or
multiple births. To find out more, including
how to get support, please visit Home-Start's
website www.homestartchams.org.uk or speak
to Rebecca Anderson, our Family Link Worker.
REMINDERS/INFORMATION
School Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 9th December
Our school Christmas lunch is nearly here. It is too late to order a
lunch therefore if you haven’t placed an order please provide your child
with a packed lunch. It could even be festive themed! For those
children in EYFS, Year 1 & Year 2 and those eligible for free school
meals, a Christmas lunch will automatically be ordered.
Afternoon Lateness
A reminder that children in year’s EYFS/1/2 finish at 3.15pm and
children in year’s 3/4/5/6 finish at 3.20pm. Please ensure you
arrive on time to collect your child. We are seeing an increase in
children who are collected late Whilst we appreciate from time to
time an emergency may occur, we do not run an after school care
provision and regular lateness is not acceptable.
Check the newsletter each week for any important dates!
