I. Critical concept
The aim for my concept is to make the “Tunnel” to an exclusive, electronic, natural and beautiful visual effective
condition.
By discussing with the team members, I would like to focus on the light effect on both side of the tunnel and
also the rest area design. I saw there’s a huge sculptures inside the tunnel, but I think it could be move to the second
floor or other place. Thus the main idea is to make the DCPA a nice and large place for both artists’ work and for
people to take a rest here. Instead, I would like to add some designed plants to the second floor of DCPA.
II. Project description
According to “Blue Sky Thinking”, there exists many ways for making DCPA a very nice condition with cool light effect. However,
nowadays people also pay more attention to rest and entertainment areas because to take a short rest is necessary. I definite my project as a
social goods that try my best to satisfied the maximum of people’s demand for both rest area and visual impact. The second fl0or of DCPA
was ‘clean’ and there were not much stuffs. In this case, some well-planted plants with nice design should be better. Thus, real flowers or
will bring people natural sense and feeling. When I took the picture at the end of the tunnel with two-point-perspective, the normal sight
that people will have when they enter the tunnel, I found the sculpture that already exist inside the middle part of DCPA will not bring so
much visual effect but took space. I think the DCPA should efficiently use most of the areas. I’ve been to Osaka Japan. The shopping
tunnel of Shinsaibashi, Osaka looks like the same geography with DCPA. However, the shopping tunnel in Japan more likely to express
food and anime which base on Japanese culture and manga culture. Also according to my research that people would rather go to
restaurant or bars for night life in Denver. Thus I think inside the DCPA there could have 1-2 theme restaurant or drink bar with artist
stuffs inside. With the one that now of my project, I think the rest areas also could have some light effect, and the light effect express nice
feeling to people at night. Thus I thought using the low electricity using LED light would be much better. There also had clothes shop and
the theatre inside the tunnel, the idea first come to my mind is to add the soft sculptures. The soft sculptures could be well-designed
clothes, cloth lights, which will be nicely light thru that with the light effect on the bottom.
I also decided to manage add some small glasses house that with seat and air conditioner inside for maximum 4 people to have a rest.
So that in the winter people will not feel cold, and when they just done with dinner, they would like to take a rest there. Inside the
building, there should have some small plants or soft sculpture for people to have a look and have fun. Also the glasses house with lightthru will make the building inside stand out for the people who come here! The preview photos of two different ideas:

Thus, the whole project will create a place that be convenient and entertainment for people.
III. Research
I paid more attention on the tunnel design so I did many research of the light effects.

Those samples for light design makes me feel awesome. However, many of them didn't energy saving ones.
Because Denver is also a city of night which means people would rather take out door activates at night. I also did the research of how
Denver people usually go at night and which places are most popular for those people.

According to the research, people would rather go to clubs, restaurants, and music studios. Thus, there could be drinks bars and music
studios inside the tunnel for entertainment.
According to H3 design brief. Public working shop and Gallery Arts are two groups that tried their best to design the city. Their advices are
valuable for my project. According to part of theirs view, space, traffic and energy are very important points to the design the outside of the
building. To consider of those views, I decided to do more change inside the tunnel not outside. However, to consider the outside of the
tunnel, I would like to keep the idea of adding 4 sightseeing elevators, that will not take much spaces and will not affect to the traffic.

IV. Visuals sketches/models
The main materials are LED lights and the design of the electricity system. In the slide show, I did the whole looking of thi s project. The most difficult
part would be the front lights. Because it was in the dark side, it’s hard to add the center tree. However, in this condition, the center tree could also use
blue lights to built.
V. Production needs
1. Materials: LED lights 16x16=256, Power supply, underground power supply.

Those are LED lights for live or large places use.
3. Budget: 256x15$=3840$/year Power supply system About 500$ per month= 6000 per year.
4. The assistants would be the power supply worker, the worker for set up the LEDs.
5. The main part would be the light effects, and the LED lights should be change by year.
Total: 3840+6000+Glasshouse set fee: 3000 = 12840$ =12.8k for total light and house set fee.
VI. Installation logistical requirements
1. Assistants needed for a successful installation
The power supplies company.
Constructional company.
In-door and Out-door designer.
Maintenance assistant.
2. All materials, technology and equipment needed to successfully install the project
Heavy objects moving company.
LED long-term Supply Company.
Power Supply Company.
For those parts, those facilities should offer quick and fast services.
VII. Maintenance
The Maintenance should take 4 times a year. Because this product need more electricity, the power supplies checking
should be run at least 1 time per month. Also the light house part need repair and check each year, it’s going to be 3k per
year, so the total cost may be 19.7k.
