Vehicle operators who deposit mud on
the road are potentially liable for a
range of offences as per the Highways
Act.
Highways Act 1980 Section 137 “If a
person, without lawful authority or
excuse, in any way willfully obstructs
the free passage along a highway he is
guilty of an offence”.
Highways Act 1980 Section 148 “If
without lawful authority or excuse a
person deposits anything whatsoever
on a highway to the interruption of any
user of the highway he is guilty of an
offence”. Do everything possible to
prevent mud being deposited on the
road. This includes cleaning mud from
vehicles, as far as practicable, before
they are taken onto the road. The fact
that cleaning mud off tractors and
attachments is commercially
inconvenient may not be a defense in
law.
FIRE PERMITS
Fire permits are free, and must be obtained
YEARLY. They are available at the Municipal
Office or can be downloaded from our website.
By obtaining a fire permit you have simply
indicated that you wish to burn.
FIRE BANS
The Municipality of Arran‐Elderslie may be
required to issue a ban on all open air fires
within the Municipality when necessary.
Please consult our website at www.arranelderslie to stay updated on such
bans/updates.
The hot, dry conditions allow fires to spread
faster than normal and can result in very
dangerous situations developing.
When a ban is in effect it applies to all
agricultural burns, campfires and recreational
fires and remains in place until notification.
ALL FIRE PERMITS ISSUED ARE VOID
UNTIL BANS ARE LIFTED.
