Some Very Nice Songs
by Joe Nobody
This wonderful songbook is dedicated to Elaine
The one person who made it happen
By never giving up on me
By always encouraging me
And by giving me a tenner to print it
To all you hundreds of others
who never asked me why I hadn't played in months
Who acted like you hadn't seen or heard anything
when I did play
like I wasn't really in the room and didn't really exist
Who glanced around the room looking as bored as possible
Who burst in to ask the time in the middle of a song
(Hello Janis Ian)
To all you hundreds of others I say: UP YOURS! So there!
It's ten past five, Dave
Coming Home
Lonely road
Heavy load
Feet are aching bad
Broken hearts
far apart
Lonely and so sad
Many years have brought me
to find out where I’m going
All my life
I have roamed
Now I’m coming home
Didn’t know
who I was
Why I felt so lost
Searched for truth
everywhere
Never mind the cost
Many years have brought me
To find out who I am
Now at last
I know what
It means to be a man
Time takes so long
so much goes wrong
every new song ends in discord
Too much to see
Too much to be
Too much for me to afford
(Repeat first verse)
All my life
I have roamed
Now I’m coming home

MANIC DEPRESSIVE SONG
Yes I wrote all the songs
I sing all the songs
I play the piano
I did the drawings
I'm intrested... I'm intrested... I'm intrested... in nothing
I'm intrested... I'm intrested... I'm intrested... in nothing
Nothing's gonna turn me on Nothing's gonna make me laugh
There is nothing you can do to bring a smile back to my heart
It's cold outside and pissing down No point in going out
The countless ways I've been let down I can't forget about
There is no point going on There is no point trying to laugh
And I’ve still got all the same hang-ups that I’ve had from the start
Every day's the same Nothing's gonna change
There's nothing I can do about it... do about it
As the years go by
I just sit and cry
I can't help feeling so blue about it...blue about it
You know they say tomorrow's gon- na be another day
Somehow I know it's gonna turn out just the same old way
Talk of going sunny places And of getting rich and famous
It will still be just the same old me trying to do all these things
Repeat
Chorus
and last verse
I'm intrested... I'm intrested... I'm intrested... in nothing
I'm intrested... I'm intrested... I'm intrested... in nothing
I'm intrested... I'm intrested... I'm intrested... in nothing

Tell You My Name
I STAND HERE WAITING
I stand here waiting
and hesitating
for life to pass me by
Don’t have the power
It’s not the hour
Don’t have the nerve to try
So I keep waiting
and hesitating
Then I go home and cry my eyes out
1.
I was alone, just wand'ring around
deserted tube-train platforms
No hope of finding any way out
Finding what life's all about
2.
And then I saw you, you took my hand
Led me a strange, strange journey
But when I asked you what was your name
You just laughed, and you replied:
I couldn't tell you why I'm like this
That's just the way it is
In some far corner
of mental fancy
2
I see a different me
CHORUS
A person growing
Gently unfolding
A new-born summer tree
“Tell you my name, well, how could I do
Something as foolish as that?
For if I told you, you'd run away, yes,
wouldn't stay one more day”
A mind expanding
No one demanding
what the limits should be to my life
And then I wake up, shocked by the cold
of my own hopelessness
Why can't I
see the way
to the place I
want to be?
Must I cry
every day
for someone to
set me free?
3.
So I went with you, into your land of
beautiful dreams and pictures
Not understanding, tentatively trying
to sing all the songs that you sang
4.
But somehow I knew none of your tunes
None of your rhythms touched me
I started slipping out of your world
Once again darkness clutched me
Repeat
CHORUS

SUCH A NICE DAY
It's such a nice day
Go for a walk
Where will I go? I don't care
Such a nice day
Take a bus ride
Who will I meet at nowhere?
Such a nice day, hey
Nowhere I go is there place for me
No-one I meet has much time for me
“Such a nice day
Must be on my way
No time to talk about the weather ”
Daydreamer’s Book
is the story of a
person who spends a lot of time sitting alone at
home daydreaming about things which never
come true for him. These are not grandiose or
self-indulgent things, such as fame and fortune,
but merely simple things which everyone
deserves in their life.
He writes all these
unfulfilled dreams down in his daydreamer's
book, each one on a new page.
In the first verse he passes a woman
in the street who is so beautiful that she sends
a cold shiver down his back. She passes him
without as much as a glance. He wishes she
could be his girl friend, for he has never had
such a beautiful girl friend. He goes home and
writes it down in his daydreamer’s book.
In the second verse he continues his
fruitless search for God. This is just one more
unfulfilled dream for his
Such a nice day
What is your name?
Are you going where I go?
Such a nice day
It's all the same
How can you know what I know?
Such a nice day, hey
Nowhere I go is there place for me
No-one I meet has much time for me
“Such a nice day
Must be on my way
No time to talk about the weather ”

A Place Called Home
I used to have a place that I called a home
A place to which I could always return
Not be alone
And no one told me where to go, oh no
No one told me where to go
I used to have a heart that pounded with love
And kept me warm in the cold winter nights
Because I had
Somewhere that I really loved, oh yeah,
Somewhere that I really loved
But now it's cold, and the fire's gone out
No hot water, ain't that what life's all about?
....Guess I don't mind
Tomorrow the sun will shine
Somehow, somewhere
I used to have a place that I called a home
A place to which I could always return
Not be alone
And no one told me where to go, oh no
No one told me where to go, oh no
No one told me where to go, where to go,
where to go, where to go, oh yeah

Daydreamer’s Book
I feel the chill running right up my spine
I see that girl, and I wish she were mine
Just one more page for my Daydreamer’s book
As she walks past me, just one last look
I've searched for God, yes I’ve looked everywhere
Has he given up, or does he still care?
Just one more page for my daydreamer’s book
One more day searching, no-where left to look
CHORUS GIRLS:
You’ve got to get out, can’t while the day away
Writing your life down in your daydreamer’s book
In your daydreamer’s book, in your daydreamer’s book
I feel my life running right down the drain
I call for help, but I know it’s in vain
Tear out the page from my daydreamer’s book
Start out a new one, p’rhaps this time a true one
CHORUS GIRLS:
You’ve got to get out, don’t waste another day
Writing your life down in your daydreamer’s book
In your daydreamer’s book, in your daydreamer’s book
I feel my life running right down the drain
I call for help, but I know it’s in vain
Tear out the page from my daydreamer's book
Start out a new one, p’rhaps this time a true one

This is my life
Tomorrow--Tomorrow--Tomorrow--Tomorrow---
where in the world, where will I be?
perhaps some dream will set mw free
a new-found God will speak for me
this is my life, ........THIS IS ME
A transformation--A transformation--A transformation--A transformation---
my mind explodes across the floor
there's someone knocking at my door
is it who I've been waiting for?
is it my truth? ......IS IT ME?
TOO SCARED TO OPEN----- GO AWAY!
TOO SCARED TO STAND, TOO SCARED TO SAY:
"I'LL FACE THE TRUTH, YES, FROM THIS DAY
I'LL LIVE WITH ME, AND COME WHAT MAY"
But no--Oh no--And now--Oh yes---
the sound is fading from my ear
as it has done year after year
to wait for it to re-appear
this is my life.... .....THIS IS ME
Wandering lost and aimlessly through the world, I arrive
at the brink of meeting my true self. But, like all the
other times before throughout my life, I turn away

GIVE ME YOUR LOVE
Give me your love for evermore
Evermore give me your love
Give me your love for evermore
Evermore give me your love
Don't think that I won't need it still
Just 'cause I'm not a-round
Without your love I tell you I can't be free
Can't even get off the ground
Give me your love for evermore
Evermore give me your love, evermore
Give me your love for evermore
Evermore give me your love
Farewell, my friend, it's time to part
Time to go search for my heart
How can I say what waits for me
What I must pay to be free
Free not from any land or place
Nor from hypocrisy
Free not from any law or face, creed or race,
Free from what's inside of me
Please do not say I run away
Please do not ask me to stay, not today
There’s just one thing can see me through
One thing that I ask of you
REPEAT FIRST VERSE
10
EMPTINESS
Emptiness is all around us,
everywhere, it’s in the air
Every day we talk and say we’re going here and going there
But when you look at our lives they’re so empty so empty
All the plans we try to make, yeh, all the nights we lie awake
All the steps we try to take to make believe we’re not a fake
And then the very next breeze blows us over blows us over
CHORUS:
Forgot about your heart
Forgot about your soul
Forgot about your goal
But now you just don't care
But that was long ago
And now you just don't know
You wanted to be whole
There's nowhere to go
So we just give up the fight, we don’t believe we have the right
Embrace the dull, embrace the drab, who needs the light, who needs the bright
colours and the bright ideas? Our lives are grey they’ll stay that way ...... for
repeat first verse
repeat CHORUS
the field where
flowers grow
This is the field where flowers grow
This is the place where lovers go
Those were the days you said you loved me so
Not so long ago
This is the path I used to walk
Wanting to think and not to talk
These are the answers oh so dearly sought
And so dearly bought, my love
Although fear's my master and hate my guide
There is still place for love
inside
(Instrumental)
Not so long ago, my love
Although fear's my master and hate my guide
There is still place for love
inside
I am the field where love must grow
The battlefield where hate must know
That victory is coming oh so slow
That one day it will show, my love
nowhere to go

Many people worship addiction in one form or another.
This is the story of such a person, and of their “friends”
who surround them, and who help to kill them.
“Jack” = jacking up hard drugs.

YOUR
BEST
FRIEND

talk to me coz your best friend can’t talk
You
You walk with me coz your best friend can’t walk,

And his silence makes you all the more lonely

Your friendship is true, and you give all you’ve got to him



You love him in all the names he has plenty, call him

But your loneliness you share with him only
Your time and your money is still not enough for him,
An’ I’m sure in the end you’ll give up your life for him
Yes, every day you sink deeper the knife for him
“Jack”, call him“Gangh”, call him“Glass standing empty”

just far too much pain and far too much sorrow”

But in the end we know “DEATH” is his real name
And we know with you he’s playing a real game
So let’s all have fun, yes, let’s all play along
And on your grave we’ll all sing this song
But we’ll pretend that we didn’t write it
Yes, we’ll pretend that we all tried to fight it

Too bad we lost, just look at the cost,
now,
Let’s play a new game, let’s give death a new name

BORING
CONVERSATION
This conversation is so boring
The road ahead was so clear
And brightly lit up by the sun
I knew where I was going
I never needed to look back
But the day I arrived
I found a dark deserted town
There was nobody there
Except for an old man dressed in black
What of the things you are ignoring?
I don’t know how you can go on
living your lives like that
no, I don’t
CHORUS
You play the game so well together
I’m sure you could go on forever
Never showing what’s inside your heart
or what’s below your belt
no, you don't
And he said to me:
"You will not be free
If you cannot see Through it all
All the little lies
Tricks that hypnotize
Wool over your eyes Covers all"
It's your time, so waste it if you please
But don't waste mine with your trivialities
Don’t call me near, so you can push me away
and slowly kill me through another day
I got back in my car
and muttered, "What is he on about?
Ten more miles down the road
will see me there without a doubt"
A thousand miles further down
I finally came to another town
As cold and dark as that other town
With no one there but that same old man
I’ve got this thing, here, in my trousers
whiling away its lonely hours
But you’re so kind: you talk to my mind
until the day I grow old
I’m so cold
Repeat CHORUS
Why is it me who must try and change things?
I’m the one who must re-arrange things
with no help from you, no, you try to pull me
back to where you are and where you want to stay
It's your time, so waste it if you please
But don't waste mine with your trivialities
Don’t call me near, so you can push me away
and slowly kill me through another day
Once more out on the road
The countryside became arid and dry
There was no life around
Not even a bird in the sky
I finally ran out of gas
And stumbled out on the dusty plain
In search of maybe a stream
Or one last look for a dying dream
But somehow I lost my way
And couldn't make it back to my car
’Twas then I thought that I heard
that old man's voice drifting from afar
Repeat CHORUS
