Latest Reports: Midweek Action: Oldland Abbotonians moved up

Toolstation Western Football League
Bulletin Number 24
Latest Reports:
Midweek Action: Oldland Abbotonians moved up four places to 16th in the First Division
following a 3-1 win at home to Corsham Town on Wednesday evening. After a goalless first
half, Oldland’s Jason Side opened the scoring with a fine header, before Danny Carter
doubled the advantage six minutes later. Benjamin Pring pulled a goal back for Corsham,
before Carter scored his second of the evening to confirm the home side’s second win on
the bounce. On Tuesday evening, Chipping Sodbury Town were knocked out of the GFA
Challenge Trophy following a 3-2 loss at Cinder Lane against Fairford Town.
Weekend Cup Action: Bristol Manor Farm are through to the fifth round of the FA Vase
after coming through their replay with fellow Toolstation outfit Melksham Town. After the
sides drew 1-1 in Bristol last weekend, it was Manor Farm who graced Melksham’s new
stadium with the first victory thanks to an early blitz in their 5-3 triumph. The Premier
Division leaders were three-up within half an hour thanks to early goals from Ben Bament,
Aron Robbins and Dean Stamp. Melksham’s first goal at the Oakfield Stadium was grabbed
by Mike Perrott in the 65th minute, yet before long the game was in the bag for the visitors
as Tory Simpson and Bament extended their advantage. Melksham gained some
respectability with late goals for Luke Ballinger and Ricky Hulbert but they were soundly
beaten and it is Manor Farm who will be travelling to Bromsgrove in the next round.
Cadbury Heath are through to the next round of the GFA Challenge Trophy following a 4-2
home win against Kingswood North, with Matt Huxley registering a hat-trick.

Premier Division: Street took advantage of the top two being involved in cup action,
beating Hallen 6-1 and moving into second place in the league. Dale Hunt scored twice in
the first half and once after the break to notch a hat-trick, with further goals coming from
Craig Herrod, David O’Hare and top scorer Steve Murray. Buckland Athletic left it late
before defeating Longwell Green Sports 3-0 at Shellards Road. With the game goalless going
into the final quarter hour, goals from Nick Rudge, Gavin Hammon and Steve Revell late on
helped push Buckland up to third at the expense of Melksham. Bradford Town had goals
from Matty Morris and Dan Cottle to thank as they beat Bitton 2-1 to get over their FA Vase
disappointment in the best way possible. Wells City came from behind to secure a point in
their 1-1 draw with Gillingham Town. After Harry Baker had given the visitors the advantage
just after the half hour mark, Gillingham secured a share of the points thanks to Jacob
Brown’s second half strike. Odd Down grabbed their 12th league win of the campaign with a
4-2 triumph over Bridport at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground. Ashley McGrane scored twice
for the hosts to accompany goals from Adnan Hiroli and Simon Gilbert as Odd Down secured
their first win in five. Cribbs and Willand Rovers drew 2-2 at the Lawns, with the home side
salvaging a point thanks to David Hill’s bullet header during the second half. Brislington
picked up an impressive 3-1 win away at Shepton Mallet thanks to goals from Mike Rimmer,
Luke Meacham and Danny Barwood, while Chipping Sodbury Town won 4-2 away against
Sherborne Town at Raleigh Grove.
First Division: Table-toppers Wellington let slip a first half lead as they were held to a 1-1
draw away at Ashton & Backwell United. Jack Taylor put the Tangerines ahead but they
couldn’t hold on for the win after Sam Skidmore headed home late on as Wellington’s four
match winning run was ended. Keynsham Town cut Wellington’s lead to four points after
winning 2-1 away at Portishead Town thanks to two goals in the space of six second-half
minutes from Ben Harris and Jordan Anstey. Cheddar came from a goal down to defeat
Wincanton Town and register their ninth win in 11 league fixtures. After finding themselves
a goal behind at the break, the home side got back on level terms thanks to a penalty from
Chris Coombs and then late on in the game a mistake from the visiting keeper allowed
Cheddar’s top marksman Callum Ham to stroke home the winner from long distance. At
Weymouth Street, Warminster Town produced one of their best performances of the
season to defeat Malmesbury Victoria 5-1. Mark Robinson scored twice for Warminster to
add to goals from Joshua Ferguson, Francois Allen and Jack Miluk as the home side
registered their 10th league win of the campaign. At the Southbank Stadium, Lewis Dunn
scored twice before the half-time break as Hengrove Athletic claimed a 2-1 Ground against
Corsham Town to consolidate fourth place in the division. Another man to score a brace
was Bishops Lydeard’s Joe Chamberlain, with his goals a big part of his side’s 3-0 win over
basement club Almondsbury UWE.

A goal two minutes into stoppage time gave Chippenham Park an invaluable 2-1 win away
at Westbury United. With the game level 1-1 at half-time, it looked as though both sides
would have to make do with a share of the points before Jamie Norman popped up with a
winner after the 90th minute to give the visitors a vital win. An entertaining encounter at
Bremhill View saw Oldland Abbotonians come out on top as 3-2 victors over Calne Town.
Oldland were ahead in the 23rd minute thanks to Owen McCallum, but less than ten minutes
later they were behind as goals from Aaron Hopkins and Stuart Windsor turned the game on
its head. After the break, Sam Hippisley struck an equaliser in the 68 th minute before
Oldland confirmed their third win in a week thanks to McCallum’s second of the afternoon
ten minutes from time. Roman Glass St George gained a 4-1 victory over Welton Rovers
thanks in part to an excellent performance from goalkeeper Phil Mills. The stopper pulled
off a number of fine saves, allowing for a brace from Josh Morris, and goals from Kris
Douglas and Jason Burt to hand them their third consecutive win on home soil. Radstock
Town won 2-0 against Devizes Town thanks to a 12th minute goal from Simon Millard, and a
further goal two minutes after half-time from Simon Keypes. Bishop Sutton rescued what
could be a vital point, drawing 1-1 away at Chard Town. Chard were in control for much of
the game and led from the 42nd minute thanks to a Luke Jackson penalty, but Sutton never
gave in and grabbed a dramatic equaliser two minutes from time despite being down to ten
men following a red card.
