ENSDF Status and Discussion Libby McCutchan National Nuclear Data Center Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY USA ENSDF Status 18765 datasets (18261 in 2015) 3325 nuclides (3261 in 2015) ENSDF FY15 statistics Center Nuclides ANL BNL Contractors 5 46 7 LBNL McMaster MSU 9 109 16 ORNL TAMU 7 17 CNDC 13 Romania India 5 22 Evaluated 250 nuclides, including 13 mass chains ENSDF FY16 statistics Evaluated 220 nuclides, including 12 mass chains Center Nuclides Adopted Levels XUNDL ANL BNL Contractor LBNL 16 39 7 18 890 2114 515 1230 30 65 7 48 McMaster MSU ORNL 83.5 16 9.5 2260 1130 390 41 35 5 TAMU TUNL UCB CNDC 18 7 5 12 1288 18 500 700 10 11 30 16 Mass chain Responsibility NDS Statistics http://journalinsights.elsevier.com/journals/0090-3752 NDS Downloads NDS Impact Factor New Developments The old … I come to this page to search, why isn’t it the first thing I see?? Some web changes Depending on mass region, evaluation is not good enough and we would appreciate if there is some way to post feedback. Community input to evaluation schedule ENSDF Archiving • ENSDF now updated only once a month • Archives available from NNDC website • Citation guidelines discussion … later Goodbye to Webtrend PDF’s using JAVA-NDS • NDS starting publishing in this format Feb 2017 • Web followed in March 2017 • Many thanks to Balraj Singh and Jun Chen Much improved level drawings ENSDF Supplemental A place for data that doesn’t qualify as primary or secondary reference • XUNDL author correspondences • Supplemental info from user’s Inelastic neutron scattering partial gamma data Jπ=(3) in ENSDF ENSDF Supplemental • Folder in NNDC Dropbox account • Updated with new supplemental information • About ½ way through adding Balraj’s database ENSDF Priority List (not new but a reminder) • Distributed Dec 2016 • Sorted by XUNDL and by cut-off date • Yellow=being worked on • Green = submitted • Yearly distribution • Please let NNDC know prior to selecting A chain Topics for Discussion Submission Guidelines Email [email protected] the following • ENSDF File • PDF output from JAVA-NDS (Note that we have eliminated the pre-review stage, evaluations will be sent directly to reviewer) A new submission checklist • Per request, we have generated a submission checklist • Please ensure evaluation conforms to all points • Those that do not will be returned prior to sending for review Some things to keep in mind • • • • This is not an exhaustive list of everything that should be checked in an evaluation Simple enough that NNDC can check compliance in short time Requires elements which are necessary to the review process Hopefully will then allow the review process to focus on physics, data selection, justifications, etc NSDD center requirements Requirement for recognition and creation of an NSDD Data Center The individual(s) at the proposed new NSDD center are required to demonstrate a significant understanding of the ENSDF format and policies and have made substantial contributions to the ENSDF/XUNDL database(s). Contributions can be in the form of a minimum of 2 mass chain evaluations, 30 individual nuclide evaluations, or 40 compiled papers for XUNDL. Contributions can also be demonstrated by the development of an essential ENSDF analysis or utility code. A presentation for the new center should be made at the NSDD meeting when the above requirements have been fulfilled. Official recognition of the center will follow a majority consensus among the current NSDD centers. NSDD center requirements • indication/declaration that the data center activity will be supported (not necessarily financially) by home institute • a commitment (in terms of FTE for example) above a threshold These could define not only creation of a center, but also continued existence of a center… ENSDF Quality Control We have received a lot of feedback/concern of the quality of ENSDF Alejandro has parsed ENSDF to find obvious errors in • • • • • Jπ assignments Multipolarity assignments Bands Transition strengths Inconsistencies in decay datasets I send emails … you need to respond NNDC is correcting mass chains from non-active evaluators An ENSDF “Big Paper” • No recent easily citable paper for ENSDF • ENDF has great success with their “big papers” • Propose we draft an ENSDF paper • NDS obvious place for publication An ENSDF “Big Paper” (the details) Take guidance from ENDF big paper organization • Potential Authors need to demonstrate understanding of evaluation process and ENSDF policies and procedures • 2 mass chain evaluations or essential ENSDF code development • NNDC will begin process with draft outline • Each author will be responsible for drafting text on a topic • Deadlines will be very strict ENSDF evaluators What defines expert ? In my opinion, we are selling ENSDF short by allowing anyone who’s willing to work on ENSDF to do so We should define requirements for mass chain evaluation ENSDF evaluators Mass chain evaluation requirements Either • Work one-on-one in collaboration with experienced ENSDF evaluator (extended visit) Or • Begin with XUNDL compilation until expertise has been sufficiently demonstrated ENSDF citation guidelines If data is taken from X or less nuclides, citation should be to individual mass chain (or nuclide evaluations) What should X be? I propose 10 ENSDF citation guidelines If greater than X From ENSDF database as of Sept 3, 2016, Version available at http://www.nndc.bnl.gov/ensarchivals/ ENSDF citation guidelines If less than X Cite data sheets Cite ENSDF archive
