10th December 2015 Newsletter No 13 William Fletcher School Dear Parents and Carers All of our children have been extremely busy this week performing their Christmas Plays. This year I have been struck by the standard of singing in all four plays. Our teachers have been ambitious in their choice of plays and the children have risen to the challenge. What has also been striking is the enthusiasm and the commitment the children have shown through the week, it has been an excellent way to begin Christmas 2015. Our children in year 4 took part in Dance workshops last Friday, the children worked with a dance specialist and then performed their dance at The Marlborough School to other year 4 children in our partnership of schools. Thank you to everyone who has brought in socks in support of the Radio Oxford Christmas appeal. We will be creating a washing line of socks in the hall before delivering them to the radio station who will then distribute them to homeless people in Oxford. If you would like to donate socks we need new adult sized socks. We have lots of Christmas events taking place next week these include; Christmas shopping on Wednesday, your child will need £3 to purchase gifts for their parents which they will then wrap for a lovely surprise on Christmas day. Next Thursday, the children have their Christmas parties, please see your child’s class teacher for lists of party food. On the last day of term the children in year 1-6 will take part in the school Christingle Service at the Church. If you are able to help with walking the children to church please see your child’s class teacher. Best wishes Deborah Nind & the William Fletcher team Our assembly theme for the month of December is Love & Advent Celebration of achievements This week Suzan, Jaimee, Jayden, Max and Charlie in year 5 and Adam and Philippa from year 6 have been awarded their bronze merit arrows. Children should bring in a maximum of £3.00, in small change if possible; younger children should bring it in a named envelope and give it to their teacher to look after. Thank you to the PTA for organising this. Christmas Parties On Thursday 17th December the children will be having Christmas Parties together in their classrooms. Children should bring in nibbles and cakes to share. Lists are up in the classrooms; please put your name against an item. Thank You Thank you to Sainsburys, Kidlington for their generous donation to the raffle and to Budgens for donating mince pies which were sold at the Christmas Plays. Homework Club. There is no homework club for the rest of December. It will start again in January. Chess Club We started our league games last week with the under 9s playing Headington School. In a superb overall performance we narrowly won. Many players were playing their first match and the whole team is young enough to play next year too! Extremely well done to David, Parsa, Lewis, Alan, Parhum, Anika, and Lyla. On Sunday the under 11s played in the zone of the National Primary School Chess Championships and did extremely well to come 5th out of 10 teams. These are mainly serious chess schools coming from all over the southern UK so it was very pleasing to see Shira hold her own on board 1 with a 50% score, Hugo outclassing his opponents with 4/5 and Azka scoring an amazing 4.5/5. Scott and Amelia added valuable wins at the end of the day after some unlucky losses and George deserved more than his one win after some great attacking play. School Minibus Drivers The school needs more minibus drivers. If you would like to help the school out and drive a minibus when we have school visits please see Mrs Morris in the office. Lost Property A Union Jack Flag that is a prop for the year 6 play has gone missing from the hall on Monday and is needed urgently. If you have it at home please return it to the office. Also a model submarine made by one of our children has gone missing from year 6 classroom. Please can you check at home and return. Thank you.
