The Special Verb be does not show action. It tells what someone or
something is or is like.
Use am or was with the subject I.
• I was the best player last year.
• I was riding my bike.
• I was doing my chores.
• I am playing with my dog.
• I am going to my grandmas house.
• I am playing video games.
Use is or was with singular nouns
and he, she, or it.
• My best story is about when I was a baby.
• When I was playing video games it was
game over.
• Is he going to the super market with her?
• Was that a monster?
• Is he going to the supermarket?
Use are or were with plural nouns
and we, you, or they.
• You’re my best friend.
• You're not my best friend.
• You’re getting my new game right.
• Were you going to college?
• Were you over there?
