2017 STATE SERIES RULES
2017 BMX Victoria (BMXV) State Series
are Class S events run to BMX Australia Rules (as amended) and as disclosed in this document.
2017 BMXV State Series events are incorporated into BMXV sanctioned open events; specific entry
conditions of each host club event are also applicable.
1.
Preamble
Victorian 2017 State Series features:

o Mini-Wheelers
o Sprockets
o Age 20” (Novice and Expert)

o Retro

Ten round series incorporated into existing sanctioned open events on the BMXV calendar
-
Open to all BMX Australia licensed riders (including 4 month licenses)

FREE entry.

Automatic entry to the series when entered in a class at the host open event

Ranking plates awarded 1 – 8 in each BMXV State Series class
-
Awards for all qualified riders
-
All qualified riders from the Series rounds will qualify for the Final Round
Age Determination
Year of Birth for all BMXV State Series classes, i.e. age at 31st December 2017.

Age Groups/Classes
The following classes are offered at the start of the series:
-
Mini-wheelers: Boys & Girls 2 -4

Sprockets: under 5, 5, 6, 7

Girl Sprockets
-
20” Expert Male and Female Classes: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17-29, 30-39, 40+ (12 classes)

20” Novice Classes: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 (Combined boys & girls) (3 classes)
-
Cruiser Male and Female Classes: 8-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-29, 30-39, 40+ (7 classes)
-
Open Wheel: 50+ (Combined male and female)
-
Retro: 8-13, 14-29, 30-39, 40+ (Combined) (4 classes)
-
Pro Classes: Men Superclass, Ladies Superclass, Masterclass (30+ open wheel)
A rider will earn series points in the class as entered. When classes are combined; they will receive series points as
scored in the class entered.
Minimum number of riders that constitute a class; as disclosed in the host open flier.
Note 1: NOVICE GUIDELINES (applicable to 2017 BMX Victoria State Series):
 riders will be considered ‘NOVICE’ if they have not been placed as follows:
o top 16 Victorian riders in the 2016 BMX Victoria State Titles
o top 3 in the 2016 BMX Victoria Junior State Series
o top 3 in the 2017 Track Attack end of series ranking
 riders may be elevated to expert status at the discretion of the State Officiating Director
 open to both male and female riders
 Novice riders will be ranked for transfer purposes only (only the top eight (8) expert riders may display
ranking plates)

Format
Qualifying rounds (number of motos will be as disclosed in the host open flier). No finals at events count towards
score.
Provision of invitation finals will be as disclosed in the host open flier.
After the 1st round, the leader from each class (excluding Mini-wheeler and Sprocket) will be required to ride with the
leader’s series plate.
5.
Entry Fees / Requirements
Entry to the BMXV State Series is automatic when entering any age class at host open event. There is no additional
cost for entering the BMXV State Series.

6.
Qualifying / Ranking – all classes
Minimum of Six (6) rounds to qualify for series ranking and/or award
Three (3) rounds must be Regional rounds (See 2017 Race Schedule for more information)
The best Four (4) Regional rounds and best Four (4) Metro rounds will be counts towards the Final Top 8 in each
class, excluding Mini-Wheeler and Sprocket classes.
A rider must be scored in at least 1 moto in order to use the round as a qualifier for the Series.
In the event of 2 or more riders being tied for any of the places a countback process will be used. This will be determined by
the rider with the most wins (number of 1’s) throughout the series. If there is still a tie it will fold down to the rider with the
most 2nd places and so on if still tied. Until there is a clear winner.
7.
Final Round
Riders qualified per class will be invited to a Final round at Wyndham. Acceptance of invitation requires an entry into
the Wyndham BMX Clubs host event.
The Final round will be:
Mini-wheelers and Sprockets:
 three (3) motos
All other classes:
 Final Round points accumulated in this round will be added to the Series results.

In the event of a tie after the last round, the riders overall result will be determined by count back.

Final Results the rider with the highest result over the combined Series Rounds and Final round will determine
the Series results for each class.

8.
Awards
Riders ranked in the Top 8 in all classes participating in this series receive a presentation ranking plate (excluding
Mini-wheelers, Sprocket and Novice). This plate can be used for one year or the end of the next series, whichever is
sooner.
Novice riders will be ranked for transfer purposes only (only the top eight (8) expert riders may display ranking
plates) (BMXA Rule 003.4).
All qualified riders (including qualified Mini-wheelers and Sprockets) will receive an award at the 2017 State Series

Series Round Scoring
Notwithstanding anything contained in the current BMX Australian Rules Manual (as amended) the following rules
apply to the 2017 BMXV State Series Rounds
Scoring
Mini-wheeler and Sprocket classes score participation points for each round raced.
All other classes, Series placing points are gained from the final result on the day after three (3) motos only. Points
are gained as follows:

The highest combined moto points will determine the final result on the day.

Where there are less than 9 riders, only the first three motos shall be used.
In the event of a tie at each round, the riders overall position will be decided by a count back. If tie still exists, count
back on fastest time will be used.

and kept up to date throughout the series.
