NATIONAL ARENA LEAGUE ROUND ONE REPORT
Six months on from the exciting NASL B Final at the Cardiff International Pool, runners up, Cardiff
were eager to commence the 2015/16. Round 1 in the Western League Premier Division meant a trip
to Millfield and the Club were chosen to host the Gala.
Racing against teams from Poole, Soundwell, Yeovil, WSM & newly promoted Carn Brea, the first
event was the Ladies’ Open 200IM, in which Chloe Tutton finished first, and was closely followed with
another convincing win from Xavier Mohammed in the Men’s’ Open 200IM.
These two events set the standard for the rest of the gala, as CCSC swimmers from all the age
groups delivered some great racing and finished first in 38 events, with Poole winning 8 events.
Coach Keith Bewley commented “it was a great start for the Cardiff A team, with no DQs. Looking
back to our first round last year the team were faster in 44 events!”
CCSC was already well ahead on points the first time they were announced after eleven events, and
stayed that way throughout the gala, ending with a final tally of 275 points, with Poole coming in
second with 203 points. (Subject to final Western League ratification).
Thanks you to all Club volunteers & officials and parents who made this a great gala and to James
Guy for stopping for pics!

NATIONAL ARENA LEAGUE ROUND ONE REPORT
CCSC B Team were competing in Hutton Moor following their return to Division 1 this year
Hosts, Southwold welcomed us together with Truro, Cirencester, Newton Abbot, West Dorset,
Salisbury & Kingsbridge Kingfishers.
Coach David Cocks commented “it was a very close round”. After earning an early lead from some
extremely strong looking relay teams, Salisbury Stingrays caught the B team up once the individual
races began.
The teams were tied after 18 races, but Cardiff B showed some fantastic character by clawing back
the lead and holding on to it until the very last race, securing victory by 1 point!
The team showed some great support, being lead by team captains Richard Cottrell and Catherine
Lock and their vice captains. All swimmers stepped up to the plate and surpassed even their own
expectations, being driving by the cheers and the energy of all the team (swimmers and parents)
which took them to the victory.
