Position: Community Engagement Manager Reports To: Associate Director of Curriculum Purpose: The Community Engagement Manager serves as the Open Doors Academy (ODA) liaison to the community, actively seeking out relationships with the goal of engaging community organizations as partners in ODA programming, recruiting, training and developing community volunteers and coordination of special programming events. The Community Engagement Manager also develops and maintains relationships that are already within Open Doors Academy, such as volunteer corps, interns, and fellows. Roles and Responsibilities: Community Engagement & Events • Develop relationships with neighborhood groups, specific cultural communities, university groups, social associations, and others. Work with these groups to identify their interests and to engage them with programs as appropriate. • When appropriate, connect program partners with the Chief Program Officer and Associate Director of Curriculum to build forward. • Enhance the visibility of ODA through participation in local community fairs and outreach events, attending whenever possible and coordinating a volunteer presence when you cannot personally attend. • Establish bi-annual community partners recognition luncheons/ breakfast (2x/year) • Establish and maintain a database system for all community partners and volunteers • Responsible for face to face monthly meeting with CMSD community coordinators to ensure strong collaboration between school and ODA • Foster positive and collaborative relationships with community residents, local nonprofit organizations, businesses, and student organizations • Coordinate and execute key community engagement events, Holiday Dinner, Fall Arts Showcase, International Festival, Family Fitness Day, and Bowling/ Night at the Museum, activities, and community volunteer recognition events • Responsible for entering family event participation into the ODA database system. • Monitoring the success of community engagement strategies and budget, and making course corrections • Successfully implement evaluation tools to gauge and measure impact and partner satisfaction bi-annually • Network and collaborating with local organizations and community leaders. • Submit a monthly scorecard report to supervisor by the 5th of each following month • Assist and/or lead special projects as assigned. Volunteer Engagement • Work with ODA staff to develop a list of volunteer slots to be filled. Develop and manage the organizations’ volunteer database. Develop and distribute application forms, match volunteers to available slots; and provide each individual volunteer with a schedule of job assignments. • Host monthly volunteer orientations the last week of each month for all new volunteers. • Work with the Training Coordinator and Director of Programming to develop a plan and protocol for in- depth orientation of volunteers. • Develop an updated volunteer handbook and other informational materials to hand out at each session. • Organize and host a volunteer recognition and thank-you event (in collaboration with the family events). Community Engagement Scorecard Goal/ Objective Host 5 ODA Family Events Annually Successfully reach a minimum of 75% of current population served at each family event Host 2 community partners luncheons/ breakfasts per year Meet monthly with each CMSD school community coordinators (3) face to face Host an informational table at a minimum of 4 community events (outside of ODA) per year Host 10 volunteer trainings per year (monthly) Recruit 15 new volunteers to the organization annually Recruit and cultivate 3 new community partners to the organization annually Expected Outcome 5 per year 75% minimum Actual Outcome 2 per year (fall and spring) 9 times per year/ school 4 events per year 10 per year 15 volunteers 3 organizations Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, social impact design, development, social work, public policy or related field required. • Minimum two years’ experience in volunteer management, social impact design, corporate community relations, project management, community organizing or other related areas required; three years’ experience preferred. • Technology skills including expertise with Microsoft Office and database management; willingness to learn new applications and identify innovative ways for technology to support organizational objectives. • Familiarity with asset-based and/or social impact design approaches to community development, volunteerism, and tutoring/mentoring. • Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create systems and processes. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions. • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally. • Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, even while at times under pressure. • Solid relationship management skills enhancing internal organizational relations and external community interactions. • Top priority is to create real social change that leads to better lives and healthier communities. This drives performance and professional motivations. • Understands the roles and contributions of all sectors of the community and can mobilize resources (financial and human) through meaningful engagement. • Dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good; creating, resourcing, scaling, and leveraging strategies and innovations for broad investment and impact. • Some evening and weekend hours required.
