PS10: Problem Solving Practice Worksheet

PS10 – Objectives 3.3-3.5 Problem Solving Practice
Directions: Create a let statement and write and solve an algebraic equation. Show all your work in
your orange notebook.
Example:
Erika is following a 2,200 calorie-per-day diet. She eats the recommended 9 serving of breads and
cereals, averaging 120 calories per serving. She also eats 5 servings of vegetables. If the rest of her
daily intake is 870 calories, what is the average number of calories in each serving of vegetables?
Let c = the average number of calories in each serving of vegetables
9(120) + 5c + 870 = 2200
1080 + 5c + 870 = 2200
1950 + 5c = 2200
1950 – 1950 + 5c = 2200 – 1950
5c = 250
5c ÷ 5 = 250 ÷ 5
c = 50
Each serving of vegetables averages about 50 calories.
Solve these problems using the same format. Show all your work clearly.
