Free-Throw Fundraiser
Dear Friends of the Hillsdale Boys Basketball Program,
This year, our student athletes will be participating in a free-throw fundraiser in order to finance
our program. Each student athlete participating in the basketball program will be asking people
that they know to sponsor them. As a sponsor of a student in our program, you help to ensure
that our program is able to fund the multiple components that we offer to help our student
athletes succeed.
Every year, Hillsdale basketball depends on donations to supplement aspects of our basketball
program. For example, two years ago Hillsdale became one of the first public schools in the
region to field a freshman basketball team. However, the school district does not provide
financial support for this team. Therefore, our basketball program is forced to fund uniforms,
equipment, and game officials all on our own. Hillsdale basketball has also become one of the
first public school basketball programs in the region to fund a comprehensive strength and
conditioning program, designed by professional athletic trainers as a way to improve strength
and prevent injury to our student athletes. We also finance HUDL, which is an online program
that allows student athletes to watch game film at home online. This allows team members to
watch game film on their own schedules, thereby freeing up more time for homework and
family.
The free-throw fundraiser this year will take place on Saturday, November 26. Each member of
the program will shoot 100 free throws over the span of a two-hour session. While one team
member shoots, other team members and coaches will count the free throws made. After each
team member has finished, a coach from our program will verify the number of free throws
made out of 100 attempts. You can pledge any amount of money per free throw, or you can
choose to sponsor a team member for a specific dollar amount. It is your choice to do
whatever you feel most comfortable with. As a guideline, you can estimate that students will
likely make anywhere from 60 to 80 free throws. Therefore, if you choose to pledge $0.50 per
free throw, you would be looking at donating anywhere from $30 to $40 for the fundraiser.
Once the free-throw fundraiser is completed, the team member that you sponsored will
approach you for your donation. At that time you can make a check payable to Hillsdale High
School for the amount indicated.
