This can be a very helpful tool for your students, particularly as it offers visuals of the Institute and its many activities. FACEBOOK Find us on facebook at IT Carlow-ERASMUS. This is a great way for students to share information as well as get to know each other in advance of arriving in Carlow. DURATION OF STAY As courses at IT Carlow are not semesterised or modularised, it is recommended that students participate for the entire academic year or where it is not possible for students to come for the entire year, please note that we will only accept applications for a short term study period when it commences in September. ECTS CREDITS The ECTS Credit information should be read carefully. Please ensure that students are aware of what ECTS Credits are available to them before completing their application form. ECTS credit information is available for every subject of every course by clicking on http://www.itcarlow.ie/courses/type/undergraduate-cao-courses.htm. Select your course of interest, select the year of the course, then select each subject of the year individually to see credit value. Please ensure that students select a course of study that will provide the number of ECTS Credits to meet the requirements of the home institute. ENGLISH COURSE – ENGLISH FOR PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS There is an English course offered to students from October to December and again from January to Easter entitled “English for Professional Communications”. Each semester, 5 ECTS credits can be achieved for the course if the student is successful in the relevant examination and if these credits are required by the Home Institute. If this is a requirement of the Home Institute, your International Office should forward an email to the International Office at IT Carlow to confirm this. There is no fee to participate in the course. I would ask you to please encourage your students to take part in this course, which is open to all Erasmus students and for some while English is already part of their full time studies at IT Carlow for some students, this course would offer additional English tuition. ACCOMMODATION IN CARLOW There are two options available to students who would like to secure permanent accommodation in advance of arrival. Option 1: The Institute does not have Campus accommodation, therefore students rent houses and apartments around Carlow Town. Details of apartments and houses for rent is available on our website http://www.itcarlow.ie/international/accommodationinternational.htm The International Office at IT Carlow will assist students in locating accommodation on arrival if they have not secured it in advance. Option 2: The second alternative is to speak to your students who have studied at IT Carlow in 2016/2017 or before. If these students were satisfied with their accommodation and would recommend it, then take note of the name, address and telephone number of their landlord and pass it on to the students coming to study in 2017/2018. This will allow them to contact the landlord & book in advance of arrival. Students, who secure permanent accommodation in advance of arrival, will not need to book temporary Bed and Breakfast. They should make arrangements with the landlord for access to their permanent accommodation on arrival in Carlow. Temporary Accommodation A list of temporary accommodation is available on the website. Check Temporary Accommodation Link on http://www.itcarlow.ie/international/accommodation-international.htm This list will provide the student with names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses where applicable, and cost of a number of Bed and Breakfasts available in Carlow. The student will then be responsible for booking his/her own temporary accommodation before arrival. We recommend that students book bed & breakfast for a minimum of 2 nights to allow time to look for permanent accommodation.
