Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
Welcome to IBCP Video Game Design Foundations! My name is John Genell, and I will be your child’s teacher. I have
an MBA, an MA in Educational Leadership, an MS in Technology and Education and I am a National Board Certified
Teacher.
I am looking forward to another exciting year and want to help your child grow academically, socially, and learn more
uses for an extremely powerful tool, the computer. This class is part of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and I will
approach the class from a business point of view. Students will learn to work in teams to create games. They will also
create games on their own using software that is available for free on the internet. THIS IS A DOUBLE PERIOD
CLASS and your student’s grade will count as two grades towards their GPA. They will receive two credits if they
successfully complete both semesters.
You can contact me in a number of ways:

My phone number is 773-609-1490. I have preparation periods 1st and 3rd periods. If I am unavailable you can
leave a message and I will return the phone calls at the number and time you give no later than 24 hours.

You can contact me through the Morgan Park website at www.morganparkcps.org. Clicking on “Teachers and
Staff,” scrolling down to John Genell, and click on “send email.”

You can send an email directly to me at [email protected]

Please use the above methods of communication and NOT the link on gradebook as I do not check that daily.
Please feel free to contact me about any concerns or questions you have about your child, the class, or me.
Students should learn to touch type (typing without looking at your hands). I can supply you or your child with some
websites to help with typing. If you do not have computer/internet accessibility, please contact me and we can work out an
arrangement for your child to spend extra time in the computer lab (his/her lunch period or after school).
If your child falls behind, needs help, or wants some extra practice, I will stay after school on most days or by
appointment if necessary. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for extra help for your student.
I am looking forward to working with you to improve your child’s computer skills.
Please sign and return this confirmation of having deceived the Parent Letter and Syllabus
Sincerely,
