School Music Performances – Tuesday, April 4th
Our music classes have been working hard learning
songs for our upcoming Spring Concert. Our theme
this year is “Singing Songs Around the World – Songs
of Peace, Hope and Love”. Our concert will take
place on Tuesday, April 4th with our Kindergarten,
1st and 2nd Grade students performing at 6:00 p.m.
and our 3rd and 4th Grade students performing at
7:00 p.m. (Ukulele Club and Honor Choir will have opportunities to perform at one or both concerts.)
Students should wear nice clothing to the performance, or traditional attire from any country of their
choosing.
Student Placement Profile Forms – Due Friday, April 7
The time has come to begin planning for the 2017-2018 school year. Student Placement Profile
Forms were distributed to students on Friday, March 31 st. These forms are due by Friday, April
7th. The forms help us with enrollment projections which in turn impact staffing and teacher
assignments. The forms are also used in the class placement process.
Be sure to return a form for each of your children. The forms are color coded by grade level to
help us sort the information. Please contact the main office at (425) 456-5100 if you did not
receive a form for your child(ren).

Virtue of the Month: Confidence
Our Virtue of the Month for April is ‘confidence.’ Confidence is believing
in something or someone. It is a type of trust. When you have selfconfidence, you trust that you have what it takes to handle whatever
happens. You feel sure of yourself and enjoy trying new things. Selfconfidence is something that you can control and is up to you to believe
you can do it. When you tell yourself you can do something, you are more
likely to achieve that goal since you will to try your best and not give up.
Have you ever noticed that people with confidence are likable and you
want to be around them?
Our Virtue Assembly will be Wednesday, April 19 @ 9:30. We will recognize Forgiveness and introduce
Confidence.
Panorama Student Survey
In October, students in grades 3-5 completed a student perception survey to collect information on
school climate and to provide teachers with feedback. During the first week of April, we will be doing
another round of the survey. The survey is run through an organization called Panorama Education. This
is the third year we are doing the survey. After the results are returned, a presentation will be created
and shared with the parent community.
The purpose of the survey is to help increase student voice in our district and school. We hope that it
will help show us where our strengths are and where we can do better. Here is some additional
information about the survey:






The survey is confidential. Staff will not see how an individual student answers a survey.
It takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.
The survey will be given at Eastgate on April 6th .
Spanish and Chinese versions are available.
Students will fill out the teacher section of the survey on two of their teachers. (It would take
too long and be too tiring to have secondary students fill out a survey for every one of their
teachers.) Elementary students will fill out the survey on their main classroom teacher and on
one of their special subjects teachers (art, music, PE, library), chosen randomly. Secondary
students will fill out the survey on two of their teachers, chosen randomly.
Results will be out in June. Teacher-level reports will only be available to the individual teachers
themselves. Teachers will receive these directly from Panorama Education. Principals and
district staff will receive summary data for schools and the district as a whole. Summary data
will be available on the district website.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Naomi Calvo, Director of Research,
Evaluation & Assessment, at [email protected] or 425-456-4274.

Literacy Tip from our LAP Reading Specialist: Poetry
April is National Poetry Month, 30 days of celebrating the joy, expressiveness, and pure delight of
poetry.
Even more, April brings us National “Poem in Your Pocket” Day! This is being celebrated on April 27th this
year. Do you like secret little messages hidden in quiet places like your pocket or lunchbox? On April
27th , tuck a rolled-up poem in your child’s backpack or lunchbox. Once they find it, they can keep in
their pocket to share with their classmates and teachers throughout the day. For some roll-up poetry
resources, click here!
